DAILY HORSE RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT SEDGEFIELD, YARMOUTH, EPSOM, WOLVERHAMPTON & SOUTHWELL
2:05 Sedgefield – Dust Free Horse Bedding Envirobed 01785719996 Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-115) 2m1f
BURROWS DIAMOND would likely have gone close on her reappearance from a break when falling at Newcastle in February, but she showed no ill effects in finishing third next time at Carlisle prior to getting off the mark at Newcastle latest.
The Diamond Boy mare ran out a wide margin winner over Laskadine on that occasion, travelling well in the race before readily asserting from three out and winning easily. However the handicapper has taken a dim view of that success and slapped Sue Smith’s charge with an 11lbs hike in the ratings.
Despite the rise there could be more to come from her however and the better ground last time might have been a catalyst for the improvement she showed; she has similar conditions here and if she brushes up on her jumping then she could go close in her bid to follow up that victory.
2:40 Sedgefield – Envirobed 01785719996 Cardboard Bedding Handicap Chase Cl4 (5yo+ 0-120) 2m3½f
TICO TIMES arrives here chasing a hat-trick of wins and maintain his unbeaten record over fences; the Arcadio gelding might be worth chancing to do both here.
Dianne Sayer’s charge didn’t cut much ice over hurdles following his move to this yard from Ireland where he’d only been a moderate performer; but following wind surgery and being sent chasing he has registered wins over this course and distance and at Carlisle latterly earlier in the month.
He ran out a four lengths’ victor of his latest outing, beating a dead-heating pair comfortably to defy a 7lbs hike for his previous narrow course and distance success. The handicapper has certainly made life tougher for him this time around but he could have more to offer still over the larger obstacles and he can improve again.
This is a higher grade of race but he’s going the right way as a chaser and he ought to make his presence felt again despite his higher mark returning to his venue which kickstarted his winning run.
2:50 Epsom – City And Suburban Handicap Cl2 (4yo+ 0-105) 1m2f
VICTORY CHIME is no stranger to the winners’ enclosure and the Campanologist gelding added another two wins to his record last term, scoring at Windsor and Pontefract.
Ralph Beckett’s charge won over course and distance back in August 2019 and he lost no caste in defeat latest when making his return to action at Pontefract earlier in the month, beaten into third by one who looked well ahead of his mark .
He’s likely to be better for the run and should be sharper now so he could go close back here where he races off the same mark and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him firmly in the mix.
3:00 Yarmouth – Quinnbet Daily Free Bet Handicap Cl5 (3yo 0-70) 1m2f
TANGLEWOOD TALES showed enough last term to suggest he was up to winning a small race and the Nathaniel gelding can improve following a break to get off the mark.
Andrew Balding has his string in good fettle at present and the selection stepped up on her form in maidens and novice company to finish third at Bath on his handicap debut, beaten four lengths behind Impulsive One and not helped by meeting trouble in running.
He is likely to relish this further step up in trip and the stiffer track here ought to suit; he’s also 1lb lower in the handicap this time around and he can improve for the emphasis on stamina this time around for a yard that has been in good form of late.
He’s been gelded since his last run and he can go close here with Oisin Murphy doing the steering.
3:55 Epsom – Great Metropolitan Handicap Cl3 (4yo+ 0-95) 1m4f
SOTO SIZZLER is 2-2 at this venue and the Mastercraftsman gelding can maintain his unbeaten record over course and distance.
David Menuisier’s charge took the corresponding race in 2019 with a defeat of Eddystone Rock prior to winning again over course and distance on Epsom Derby day in June of that year. He had also won at Goodwood the previous season so he clearly acts well on undulating tracks.
Following his two wins here he finished runner-up in two of his next three starts prior to a lengthy absence and leaving William Knight for his current handler, missing the whole of the 2020 campaign before returning in March with a creditable fourth of nine behind Al Zaraqaan.
Beaten nine lengths on that occasion he was entitled to have needed the run and he should come on a bundle with that under his belt; while the handicapper has eased him 2lbs in the weights. Back at this venue he could resume winning ways under William Buick dropping into a Class 3 contest and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him going close here.
5:20 Wolverhampton – Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Handicap (Div I) Cl6 (4yo+ 0-55) 6f
GUNNERSIDE showed improved form back on the all-weather and dropping to seven furlongs, winning on his reappearance at Newcastle earlier in the month and almost following up under a penalty seven days later at Kempton.
Grant Tuer’s Gutaifan gelding had run out a three lengths’ winner on his return to action, beating Kroy and that race has thrown up a subsequent winner; he latterly lost little in defeat behind Elusif although he did get worked up at the start and that may have cost him as he raced keenly throughout and may have done too much too soon.
A further drop to six furlongs could suit given he’s shown plenty of speed and if he can settle better than he did last time he can get back to winning ways here.
6:00 Southwell – Advertiser Ladies Day Handicap Cl6 (3yo 0-55) 5f
UPSIDE DOWN responded well to having a visor fitted when scoring her first career win over this course and distance back in January although the Albaasil filly disappointed next time back here in February although she was badly hampered quite early and wasn’t seen to best effect.
Anthony Brittain’s charge bounced back last month when finding only one too strong in Better By Far and that form has been boosted with the fourth winning since.
Both those last two runs have come over six furlongs, while his winning run came at this yardage so a return to the trip could well suit her and she can get back to winning ways here from only 1lb higher in the weights in a fairly weak contest.
