Reach For The Moon (7:15 Sandown) 11/8
His first ride on the card is a Royal ride for Her Majesty The Queen with REACH FOR THE MOON. The Sea the Stars colt made a promising start to his career last year, finishing in the top two in all five of his races last season.
Frankie was on board for four of those races, and each of those rides were full of promise. His first ride on board was in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, where he only found Point Lonsdale too good on unsuitably Soft ground. Point Lonsdale then followed up by winning Group 3 and Group 2 races, before finishing second behind Native Trail in the Group 1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.
Next up he ran out a comfortable winner at Newbury, beating Harrow by four-lengths, who then rattled in a hat-trick of victories himself. He then went to Sandown where he oozed class to land the Group 3 Solario Stakes, eventually running out a four-length winner again, despite being eased down in the run in.
His final race of the season came in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, where he was just edged out by Bayside Boy. The ground was Good to Soft that day, so his only three defeats in his career have been on his debut, and on Soft/Good to Soft ground.
The ground looks set to be Good at Sandown on Thursday and this drop back to Listed company should make things easier for him. There is nothing like the quality of Bayside Boy or Point Lonsdale here to prevent him winning here and he should take the world of beating!
Francesco Clemente (7:45 Sandown) 1/1
His second ride comes on the impressive FRANCESCO CLEMENTE, who looked the real deal when making a winning debut at Newmarket last month.
That debut run was hugely promising, where he won comfortably despite a slow start and drifting left in the run in. He was also one of two horses who raced on the far side of the group to finish in the top six, with the other being Sir Michael Stoute’s Kiteflyer, who ran out a four-length winner on his next start.
The form of that race has been further boosted, with the runner-up Secret State winning a class 3 race comfortably next time out, and ninth-placed Noble Anthem also winning next time out. Another worth mentioning is the seventh-placed Sweet Fantasy, who impressed next time out when finishing a neck second to William Haggas’ Enshrine.
Both trainer and jockey are in top form lately, and with the form of his debut race working out so well, there’s every chance Frankie can steer Francesco Clemente to another victory and complete a Sandown double.
