Frankie Dettori’s Top Royal Ascot 2021 Chances

Frankie Dettori rode his way into Ascot folklore when winning all seven races on a now-famous September 1996 card, and Dettori’s signature ‘flying dismount’ has been seen to great effect in the Ascot winner’s enclosure on numerous occasions since.

One week that particularly captures Frankie’s attention is Royal Ascot, with Frankie’s current tally of 73 Royal Ascot winners far superior to that of his weighing room colleagues. Can Frankie add to those 73 winners in 2021? Well, with a nod to that memorable day back in 1996, we have identified Frankie’s seven strongest chances at next week’s meeting.

PALACE PIER – Queen Anne Stakes (14:30, Tuesday 15th June)

The week could well get off to the perfect start for Frankie when he takes the ride on PALACE PIER in the Queen Anne Stakes – the opening race of Royal Ascot 2021. Palace Pier properly announced himself onto the scene with Group 1 success in the St James’s Palace Stakes at this very meeting last year, and his career record now reads 7 wins from 8 starts.

MAVEN – King’s Stand Stakes (15:40, Tuesday 15th June)

Frankie has further chances of Royal Ascot Day 1 success with MAVEN in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes. This colt has a slightly in-and-out profile, yet he goes well when fresh, and he looks very unexposed when compared to his rivals.

LORD NORTH – Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (16:20, Wednesday 16th June)

LORD NORTH bids for back-to-back victories in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes next week – with the race being the feature on Royal Ascot Day 2. James Doyle was aboard for Lord North’s 2020 race victory, yet Frankie is expected to back riding the gelding next week having been in the saddle for his latest Dubai victory.

GLORIA MUNDI – Ribblesdale Stakes (15:40, Thursday 17th June)

Frankie Dettori and John Gosden have teamed up to land the last two renewals of the Ribblesdale Stakes, and they will attempt to land the hat-trick next week with GLORIA MUNDI. This Bjorn Nielsen bred daughter of Galileo has had just the two career starts to date, chasing home a potentially smart Roger Varian trained filly at Newbury last month.

STRADIVARIUS – Ascot Gold Cup (16:20, Thursday 17th June)

Royal Ascot Day 3 could be a particularly good one for team Gosden, Dettori and Nielsen, with STRADIVARIUS lining up in the feature Gold Cup – where he will bid to match the record of four straight Gold Cup wins set by the mighty Yeats.

CAMPANELLE – Commonwealth Cup (15:40, Friday 18th June)

Frankie Dettori was aboard CAMPANELLE when the filly took the Queen Mary at this meeting last year, and he is once again expected to take the ride when the filly lines up in Royal Ascot Day 4’s Commonwealth Cup.

LOGICIAN – Hardwicke Stakes (15:40, Saturday 19th June)

LOGICIAN has had his problems down the years, yet with a clear run, he can be expected to go well in Royal Ascot Day 5’s Hardwicke Stakes. Winner of the St Leger back in 2019, the son of Frankel is now 6 from 8 in his career – 4 of those wins coming under Frankie Dettori.
