FRIDAY DAILY RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT NEWBURY, DONCASTER, LINGFIELD & NEWCASTLE
2:00 Lingfield – Betway Handicap Cl3 (4yo+ 0-95) 6f
Since last summer following the recommencement of racing INVINCIBLE LARNE has only twice finished out of the places and Mick Quinn’s charge can get back to winning ways here.
Both those runs that saw the Invincible Spirit gelding finish out of the frame came over five furlongs; but his form over six furlongs since returning last June reads 3312213 and his latest win came here in January when beating Tin Hat by a head.
That victory was followed up by a good third to Sir Oliver at Wolverhampton last month off this mark and back on polytrack at this venue he ought to remain competitive where he can quickly bounce back from that defeat.
This is a slightly stronger grade but he looks up to making his presence felt and no surprise to see him firmly in the mix.
2:25 Newbury – BetVictor “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl4 (5yo+) 2m4½f
SIR SHOLOKHOV won a point to point in Ireland prior to joining this yard and the Sholokhov gelding made his debut for Harry Whittington at this venue back in November following wind surgery where he ran well to finish just over two lengths’ third to My Drogo.
He also wore a tongue-tie on that occasion and he held every chance jumping two out where he put himself on the back foot with a mistake; however he kept on well and was running on again on the flat in what was an eye-catching run and there is almost certainly more to come from him on the back of that experience.
The race-winner gave that form a big boost next time when winning a Grade Two next time and now facing a step up in trip he can get off the mark at the second attempt with improvement anticipated and the yard hitting some good form following a quiet spell.
3:45 Lingfield – Play 4 To Score At Betway Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-70) 1m5f
TOROLIGHT won over this course a couple of seasons back when trained by Richard Hughes and following a short stint with Nicky Henderson moved to his current yard where he wasted little time in getting back on the scoresheet with another victory at this venue.
The Toronado gelding sported first-time blinkers on that occasion, making all the running and keeping on well to deny Murhib by the best part of a length with the front two pulling a couple of lengths clear.
He’s been put up 5lbs for that which demands a bit more from the five-year old who hasn’t been the most consistent; but he’s a dual-winner at this venue and the headgear could yet eke out some futher improvement over this longer trip, while his stable is in red-hot form currently.
Adam Kirby takes over in the saddle and few ride Lingfield better so the selection looks set to deliver another big run and every chance he can follow up if in similar form.
3:25 Doncaster – Virgin Bet Handicap Chase (Challenger Middle Distance Chase Series Qualifier) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-130) 2m3f
PRUDHOMME stepped up on an encouraging chase debut on his return from nine months off to score over course and distance in December, beating Peur De Rien by a neck and Jane Williams’ charge can follow up here.
The Martaline gelding has wins in a bumper and over hurdles to his name and he can complete the set here with further improvement anticipated despite a 5lbs rise in the weights although that is offset by Chester Williams’ claim so he can effectively race off the same mark.
He showed a good attitude to get on top late on with the front two pulling well clear of the rest so it is likey he has further scope to progress and back from a break he can add to his win tally.
3:35 Newbury – BetVictor Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Stayers Hurdle Series Qualifier) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-135) 3m
ROQUE IT won a bumper at Huntingdon for Olly Murphy prior to joining Paul Nicholls and the Presenting gelding has shown useful ability back from a lengthy break to post in-the-frame efforts over hurdles at Uttoxeter and Wincanton this term.
Not seen to best effect in a jumpers’ bumper last time at Kempton where he finished around three lengths’ sixth to Royal Pretender the Ditcheat runner could do better now back over hurdles where he makes his handicapping debut from a potentially workable mark.
He’s less exposed than most of these and the step up to three miles for this latest run could reveal more so every chance he can run well for his in-form yard and no surprise to see him in the mix.
4:00 Doncaster – Virgin Bet EBF Mares’ “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle (EBF Mares’ NH Novices’ Hurdle Qualifier) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m3½f
AGGY WITH IT has been progressing well this term with two wins in novice company at Market Rasen and Taunton prior to beating only one home at Cheltenham in December on her handicap debut.
That was a warm race however and the Presenting mare was possibly unsuited by the soft conditions having done all her racing previously on better ground.
Dan Skelton’s charge wasted little time in bouncing back to winning form when taking a Kempton jumpers’ bumper, scoring easily despite the neck margin of victory and returning to novice hurdle company here on more suitable ground she can resume her progression over obstacles for her in-form yard where she sets a decent standard.
She does have to give away a stone in weight to all but one rival so she’ll likely need a bit more improvement to be successful; but it would be no surprise to see her deliver again under Harry Skelton and she ought to go close.
7:15 Newcastle – Play 4 To Score At Betway Handicap Cl6 (4yo+ 0-60) 6f
KILCONQUHAR didn’t show much for David O’Meara but wasted little time in getting off the mark following his switch to Alistair Whillans with a win over course and distance back in October.
The Hallowed Crown gelding followed up that success with a near-miss next time over this course and distance when denied by a nose behind Amelia R; however he went the wrong way after and disappointed in two subsequent runs before taking a break.
Applied with a hood for his return he ran out a head winner over reopposing Billy Wedge where he gave that rival 6lbs and he is better off now on these terms with Billy Garritty taking off a handy 3lbs.
He should another decent pace to aim at here and if arriving in similar form then he ought to go close.
