Fidelio Vallis is very much respected at the head of the betting. However, the form of both his runner-up finishes in France don’t make for particularly pleasant reading and Paul Nicholls hasn’t recorded a winner in 16 attempts at Uttoxeter in the last five years. A shocking statistic for the Champion Trainer.
Emma’s Joy gained plenty of experience on the flat and has form between the flags to suggest she will take well to jumping. That being said, I was very impressed with PRUDHOMME’S (NAP) triumph on the victory on the flat at Ffos Las in the spring and I fancy he will make up into a very useful jumper.
Nick Williams charge was fancied by some as he made his racecourse bow at Wincanton last season, only to unseat Lizzie Keely before the start and the field went on without them. Purdhomme was unruly before the start again on his second start, but managed to control his greenness enough to push The Macon Lugnatic all the way to the line.
Prudhomme took keen hold on his third start on the flat, but looked much more assured at the business end of the race, cruising clear in the final furlong to win by five lengths. Williams’ four-year-old is a half-brother to many useful jumpers – including a former Grade Two winner for Willie Mullins in Pont Alexandre – and he will relish the testing ground conditions.
