MAYDANNY (1.45 Goodwood, 1m2f handicap)
Ran a decent race when favourite for the Silver Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot, finishing first on the unfavoured far side, which proved nearly impossible to win from that week.
Can be forgiven a poor run in a small field at Newmarket last time when the decision was made to hold him up, which proved not to work, and we can expect him to go forward this time under Silvestre de Sousa.
Well drawn in stall 1 on the inside rail to make the running, I’d expect him to be in front a couple of furlongs from home and be difficult to pass.
KING ZAIN (2.15 Goodwood, 7f Group 2)
Impressive winner of a maiden on debut but was too green to do himself justice when upped to Group 2 level at Newmarket last time.
Was badly bumped at the start on that occasion and suffered trouble in running before wandering around on the track.
Improvement can be expected for that run and he could bustle up the favourite Battleground, who won the Chesham at Royal Ascot but that form has not stood up that well in recent days.
DUKE OF HAZZARD (2.45 Goodwood, 7f Group 2)
Has already won at Group 2 level and has a 100 per cent record at this track, winning all three of his races. Form this season suggest he more than retains his ability, with his third in the Summer Mile behind Mohaather reading particularly well in the context of that race, with the winner now well fancied for the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday.
Comes out as one of the best at the weights and potent turn of foot should see him well with consistency on variety of ground standing him in good stead.
A MOMENTOFMADNESS (3.45 Goodwood, 5f handicap)
Was good enough to finish second behind 2020 July Cup winner Oxted in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster just over a year ago and is now down to his lowest handicap mark since that run.
Has finished eighth in two starts since the lockdown was lifted but that doesn’t tell the whole tale as he showed plenty of pace at York last time while racing on the unfavoured part of the track.
Has form at Goodwood, with two previous seconds and looks to have a good draw near the stands’ side rail for one with so much early pace. Could prove difficult to pass.
