AL SALT (1.45 Goodwood, 1m2f handicap)

Has won both starts this season and looks a horse of serious ability. First win of the season came when beating Tilsit, who subsequently went on to win by 19 lengths on his next start and tackles Group company at this meeting later in the season.

Al Salt still looked green but had plenty in hand when winning at Wolverhampton on his only other start this year and it’s clear that he has a decent engine.

Makes his first start on turf under Jim Crowley and will be fascinating to see how he gets on.

ENGLISH KING (2.45 Goodwood, 1m4f Group 3)

Four Derby also-rans take part here and preference is for English King. Like most, he was unsuited by the way the Derby was run but he finished off in eyecatching fashion and deserves another chance to confirm his promise.

His Lingfield win suggested he is a horse that should be followed at the highest level and he again has the assistance of Frankie Dettori in the saddle.

BALAVAD (3.45 Goodwood, 7f handicap)

Some well-bred horses from big yards running here but those two-year-olds are in here because they have so far failed to live up to expectations.

So we’ll go for Balavad, who has run well in four maiden starts and contests his first handicap here.

Has caught the eye in his last couple of starts and trainer Jamie Osborne has just started to hit form this week.

GOLDEN BEAR (4.45 Goodwood, 5f handicap)

Winter Power is likely to be a warm order after destroying the field at Redcar on Monday and clearly has plenty in hand off this mark.

But it might be worth taking him on with Golden Bear, who has been gelded since his latest start even though the form of his first two runs are still working out well.

Finished fifth on his last start but the first, second and seventh all won on their next start, while the drop back to 5f should also suit his running style.
