HORSE RACING BEST BETS – SUNDAY TIPS AT GOODWOOD & NEWTON ABBOT
1:30 Newton Abbot – Aubrey Loze Memorial Intermediate Chase (GBB Race) Cl2 (5yo+) 2m5f
FUSIL RAFFLES won three times last season over fences and chased home Chantry House in the Marsh Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival; a repeat of that effort would make the Saint Des Saints gelding tough to beat on his reappearance.
Nicky Henderson’s charge has gone well fresh in the past, winning on debut and on each of his subsequent two seasonal returns to action and his excellent Cheltenham run where he finished runner-up to his stablemate also came on the back of a three months’ break.
Reported to have broken a blood vessel when last seen being pulled up in the Manifesto Chase at Aintree he could be one to keep onside here with softer ground no issue and given his excellent record when fresh.
He does have to concede weight all round to his three rivals but his form to date over fences sets a good standard and he can make another winning reappearance.

Sunday tips at Goodwood and Newton Abbot. Fusil Raffles can make another winning seasonal reappearance.
1:45 Goodwood – C Lewis Worldwide Alderbrook Handicap (For Professional Jump Jockeys) Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 2m
TIN FANDANGO proved he can handle soft ground on turf when scoring at Lingfield back in July and the Steele Tango gelding might be worth chancing to repeat the dose here.
Mark Usher’s charge races predominantly on the all-weather but he handles turf perfectly fine as runner-up efforts at Chepstown and Bath attest; but he produced his best run to date on turf when faced with a softer surface latest, beating Debable by an impressive 11 lengths.
He’s been pushed up 6lbs for that but he remains unexposed on soft ground and could yet improve further for his second run in the conditions. Stamina is no object either and the booking of Aidan Coleman for this jump jockeys’ contest catches the eye so a big run wouldn’t come as a surprise.
2:37 Newton Abbot – newtonabbotracing.com Novices’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 3m2f
BALLYEGAN HERO could be the answer here with plenty of chasing experience to call upon and the Oscar gelding can follow up his latest win over hurdles at this venue as he returns to the larger obstacles.
Paul Henderson’s charge has been in good form this term, racking up a pair of wins over fences at Stratford and this course and distance and he resumed winning ways over slight further than today’s trip when contesting over the smaller obstacles latest where he beat Easyrun De Vassy by three lengths.
He had found only one too good on his previous and last chase start at Uttoxeter, beaten seven lengths by Storm Home although that was in a stronger race than this and he can make his presence felt returning to the bigger obstacles now where he’s only 1lb higher.
2:55 Goodwood – Great Sussex Way Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-95) 6f
SPANISH STAR has been running well this term, making the frame on a number of outings prior to gaining some just reward for his consistency when going in at Newbury in August.
Patrick Charmings’ charge has continued in decent fettle, not disgraced at Sandown in a much better race and continuing to make the frame in more recent runs at Newbury and Salisbury when last seen.
The Requinto gelding was beaten just over one length on that last run by Ascot Adventure, eventually finishing third while his previous fourth behind Ivatheengine at Newbury has been boosted and off the same mark he should continue to remain competitive.
Soft ground is no issue and he’s fully effective over six furlongs so another big run wouldn’t come as a surprise and the consistent sort can make his presence felt again here.

Sunday tips at Goodwood and Newton Abbot. Hugo Palmer can turn out a winner on the card at Goodwood.
4:40 Goodwood – Goodwood Horse Racing Club Supporters Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m4f
STRAWBERRY ROCK comes into this contest in decent form, finishing runner-up the last twice and the Rock Of Gibraltar gelding can get back to winning ways.
Hugo Palmer’s charge is lightly raced and won twice last term from five starts, rounding off his campaign when finishing midfield in the November Handicap.
He made a winning reappearance with a two lengths’ win over Alfred Boucher at Windsor in June and his two runs since have yielded successive silver medal finishes at Newmarket and Thirsk latest where he was beaten less than one length by Safe Voyage.
That form looks fair and the handicapper has only pushed him up 1lb in the weights so another big performance wouldn’t come as a surprise here if the softer ground doesn’t prove a hindrance.
