Brian Healy takes a look ahead to this week’s UK and Irish horse racing meetings and details all the big races and fixtures going to post over the next seven days.

More high-class horse racing action awaits punters this week, where the Group Two Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday is the big race of the week. Saturday’s card at the Berkshire venue also includes the Group Three Geoffrey Freer Stakes on a quality afternoon.

It is also Great St Wilfred Handicap day at Ripon on Saturday, where a typically competitive renewal of the famous race goes to post.

Elsewhere, there is Listed and Group Three action during the week at Salisbury, Leopardstown and the Curragh amongst others where feature races include the Sovereign Stakes, the Irish St Leger Trial and the Royal Whip Stakes.

MONDAY 12 AUGUST

The wet weather over Scotland over the past few days has claimed Ayr’s scheduled fixture on the flat, thus leaving just four UK and Irish racemeetings to go to post on Monday.

The loss of Ayr leaves only Catterick as the surviving afternoon fixture, and the Yorkshire track are racing on the level; whiile in the evening there is further flat racing on turf from Windsor as well as from the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

Completing the revised fixture list for Monday is an evening jumps racing card at Ballinrobe in Ireland.

A bumper seven-fixture line-up of UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post throughout Thursday, and the afternoon fixture list sees flat racing from Salisbury where the Group Three Sovereign Stakes goes to post. There is also flat racing from Beverley and Lingfield on the all-weather in the afternoon; while in the evening there is further flat racing action from Yarmouth and Chepstow.

Meanwhile, in the evening there is flat racing at Leopardstown where there is Group Three action on the card with the Desmond Stakes; while Tramore are hosting a mixed flat and jumps racing card to close out the day.

The evening racing meanwhile comes from Newmarket’s July Course on turf, and from Chelmsford on the all-weather. There is also flat racing in Ireland from the Curragh where there is Group Three action with the Irish St Leger Trial and Royal Whip Stakes both on the agenda.

Elsewhere, it is Great St Wilfred Handicap day at Ripon, while Doncaster and Newmarket are also racing on the flat in the afternoon alongside Cork in Ireland where the Group Three Give Thanks Stakes heads the agenda at the Irish track.

Meanwhile, Perth are racing over the sticks in the afternoon.
