Brian Healy looks ahead to this week’s UK and Irish horse racing meetings, detailing the pick of the week’s action.

After a fantastic week of horse racing action in the UK and Ireland where both Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Festival unfolded, there is plenty more high-class fare to look forward to over the next seven days.

The feature meeting of this week comes from Ascot where it is the annual Shergar Cup tournament where the girls will be hoping to hold on to the crown they won twelve months ago, although the teams of Europe, Rest of the World and Great Britain and Ireland will be looking to wrest the trophy from their grasp!

Elsewhere, during the week there is Group One action with the Phoenix Stakes from the Curragh, while Saturday’s Haydock racecard features the Group Three Rose Of Lancaster Stakes.

MONDAY 5 AUGUST

Six meetings will go to post across the UK and Ireland on Monday with the afternoon racing on the flat coming from the all-weather at Kempton, while Ripon race on turf. They are joined in the afternoon by further flat racing from Naas in Ireland.

The evening racing takes in flat racing from Windsor as normal, as well as from Carlisle; while over the sticks there is a fixture from Cork.

Tuesday takes in five UK and Irish horse racing meetings, and there is flat raciing from both Catterick and Newbury.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s evening racing action sees further flat racing from Ripon and Nottingham; while over the sticks there is a fixture in Ireland at Roscommon.

In the evening there is further flat racing action on the all-weather from Newcastle, while Sandown goes on turf. There is also flat racing in Ireland from Leopardstown where the Group Three Ballyroan Stakes is the highlight.

Completing Thursday’s fixture list is a meeting at Sligo who go over the sticks.
