IRISH HORSE RACING TIPS – THURSDAY BEST BETS AT CLONMEL
2:20 Clonmel – Suir Blueway Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-95) 2m½f
This is a poor contest and SHEDDING looks the most solid option in a pretty moderate bunch although there’s a couple who might improve now handicapping. However, the Carlotamix gelding gets the verdict to end his drought and double his tally.
William Burke’s charge has just one win from his 23 runs over the sticks which came at Limerick last July; but he hasn’t been beaten far in either of his last two runs when finishing third both times at Tramore and Cork respectively and he was only a half-length adrift of The Diary Keeper latest.
He wasn’t helped by a couple of late errors on that latest occasion but he sets a fairly solid standard at this level and he handles these conditions so every chance he can deliver the win and end his losing streak.
2:50 Clonmel – www.grahamnorris.com Memorial Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 3m
EIMEAR is a dual-winner this term and the Court Cave mare could make it three with a victory in this contest.
Matthew Smith’s charge struck over fences in July, running out a ten lengths’ winner and she returned from a couple of months off following a lesser run when successful by ten lengths over this course and distance at the beginning of the month.
She won well that day, travelling smoothly and taking up the running two out readily asserted to score and the form of that run has been boosted since by the runner-up.
The handicapper certainly hasn’t missed her as a consequence, but given her current vein of form there might be more still to come and she should be capable of another big run as she bids to add to her seasonal tally.
4:20 Clonmel – Clonmel Handicap Chase (4yo+) 2m
THE ABBEY remains a maiden after 16 runs over the sticks, but Gordon Elliott’s charge could get off the mark here.
The Yeats gelding has finished runner-up in each of his last three starts which includes finishing just over one length adrift of the reopposing Fag An Bealach at Downpatrick earlier in the month. However he travelled well in that race and a last fence mistake may have robbed him of victory as he was worn down late by the eventual winner.
He was giving the winner 7lbs on that occasion however and he can turn the tables now facing the same rival from level weights as he makes his handicap debut and he can come out on top on this occasion.
