2:00 Leopardstown – Leopardstown Handicap (3yo+) 1m
MAKER OF KINGS has stepped up on some fair form for Gordon Elliott since switching to join forces with Ger Lyons, winning two of his last four starts which includes at Tipperary latest where the Zoffany colt beat off the useful Teed Up.
Also a Gowran Park winner earlier in the campaign over a shorter trip than this he proved softer conditions to be of no concern in that last start and there could yet be better to come from him under the care of this shrewd operation.
A 5lbs rise demands a bit more from him but he appears to be going the right way and can make his presence felt again.
3:00 Leopardstown – Leopardstown Handicap (Div II) (3yo+ 45-65) 1m
TREBLE CONE ended a lengthy losing run when scoring at Cork last month, seemingly improved by the application of a visor and the Lethal Force gelding looks worth chancing to strike again.
Gerard Keane’s charge had a half-length to spare over Pulsating on that occasion, keeping on well and showing a good attitude to hold on for the win; he’s been raised 6lbs in the ratings as a result but he could prove equal to the task of defying his new mark given his previous success back in 2019 had come from this 64 rating and he had placed from a 70 rating next time out.
This rating is well within his range then and he could go in again with the headgear retained.
5:15 Dundalk – Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Handicap (3yo+) 1m4f
ELA KATRINA is 2-3 since joining Ger Lyons from Roger Varian and the Kendargent filly can strike again having run out a narrow winner here last month.
Both her wins have come at this venue, scoring on her first run for this yard back in June and bouncing back from a lesser turf effort which might have been needed to strike over course and distance by a short-head from Spelga.
That form has taken a couple of knocks and she has more on her plate upped 5lbs for that success. It could be significant though that Colin Keane takes over from a 7lbs claimer and there might still be more to come from her so she is chanced to maintain her pefect record at this venue with another success.
7:45 Dundalk – Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Pat Smullen Mercury Stakes (Group 3) (2yo+) 5f
MY LAUREATE had reopposing Urban Beat behind when scoring over course and distance two weeks ago and the Rajj filly can confirm that form.
Ger Lyons’ charge possibly got first run on the runner-up but he posted a good effort to finish four lengths’ clear and likely would have won in any case had that one not endured any trouble in running.
The selection had the run of the race, making all and scoring comfortably and she takes a step up in grade for this latest outing although she likely has more to offer still and can improve further.
She’s still thoroughly unexposed on this surface and racing from a good draw again she can get to the front quickly and stay there with most of the other front-runners drawn wide. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see her proving hard to peg back and she can follow up her last-time win.
