IRISH RACING BEST BETS – LEOPARDSTOWN RACING TIPS FOR THURSDAY
1:55 Leopardstown – Plusvital Handicap (Div I) (3yo+ 50-80) 1m
EVERYHOURONTHEHOUR has been running well of late, winning at Dundalk back in February and finding only one too good over course and distance latest when denied by a half-length behind Indian Lilac.
William Ross’ Dragon Pulse gelding might be worth chancing to go one better here from just 4lbs higher if he can repeat that performance where he set out to make the running and he was still bang in contention heading into the last half-furlong before the winner gained the upper hand.
He has a wide draw again here to overcome which isn’t ideal, but took some pegging back last time having gained an early advantage and if he can replicate that run then he could go well again.
2:30 Leopardstown – Plusvital Handicap (Div II) (3yo+ 50-80) 1m
ICE COLD IN ALEX was pretty reliable in these sorts of contests last term, often running well but not managing to get his head in front and the Olden Times gelding might be worth chancing at a big price.
Ken Condon’s charge hasn’t won since scoring over seven furlongs at this venue back in August 2018, but he’s made the frame several times since in some valuable handicaps and he made a pleasing return to action back here in April where he was beaten only a half-length by Midnight Fire.
He hasn’t fired in subsequent outings, but he might have found the going too testing for him latest and he’ll appreciate the return to quicker ground here, while he has a decent record at this venue where he has a win and three places from five starts.
If he can recapture his best then he could go close from this mark which is 4lbs below his last winning rating, while he made the frame last term from marks as high as 85 so he’s handicapped to run well if bouncing back from his recent lesser efforts.
3:05 Leopardstown – Glencairn Stakes (Listed Race) (3yo+) 1m
FOURHOMETWO is lightly raced and could have better to come having got off the mark for the season at Naas back in April when beating Rebel Step in a handicap.
Johnny Murtagh’s charge was a winning juvenile, scoring at Galway last August before being tried in Group Two and Listed company and he finished a good fourth in the Star Appeal Stakes at Dundalk on his final run of the campaign.
Having finished third on his reapparance he struck that latest win with a comfortable performance, travelling well despite taking a keen hold and he appeared to win with something to spare.
The runner-up subsequently had a crack at the Irish 2000 Guineas while the third has won since and with the potential for better to come the Ajaya gelding can follow up that latest victory here.
3:40 Leopardstown – Monkstown Handicap (4yo+) 1m1f
TEJANO took until her latest reappearance to get off the mark when successful at Gowran Park in May to end a seven-race losing streak and Jim Bolger’s charge subsequently lost little caste in defeat when finishing fourth to Baby Zeus at the Curragh later in the month.
She had won by a comfortable six lengths on that first occasion, making all the running and keeping on strongly for an easy victory and she was only beaten around three lengths latest on her handicap debut where she adopted similar tactics where she stuck well to her task once headed although she was no match for the front trio.
Despite only finishing fourth the handicapper saw enough to push the Teofilo filly up another 1lb which will demand a bit more from her; however she could prove equal to the task and if the quicker ground doesn’t prove a negative then she can go well.
4:50 Leopardstown – Nijinsky Stakes (Listed Race) (3yo) 1m4f
FERNANDO VICHI won at the second time of asking last term, scoring over one mile at this venue before posting a creditable fourth behind Cadillac when upped to a Group Two here in September.
Donnacha O’Brien’s charge has twice come up short this term behind Epsom Derby favourite Bolshoi Ballet in starts here this term, latterly beaten around six lengths by that rival in the Derrinstown Derby Trial where he wore blinkers for the first time.
Despite meeting with defeat he ran a creditable race to finish third and he could improve for this longer trip, while the fourth boosted that form when winning the Irish 2000 Guineas next time out.
If this extra distance has the desired effect then he should go close and it wouldn’t be much of a shock to see him in the mix at the business end of this Listed contest.
