IRISH RACING BEST BETS – THURSDAY TIPS FOR THURLES
2:45 Thurles – Thurles Nursery Handicap (Plus 10 Race) (2yo) 1m
Jim Bolger has a strong hand in this race with both Flying Visit and VERBAL FENCING lining up; preference though is for the latter who arrives in search of a hat-trick and the progressive Vocalised filly can land the three-timer.
The application of cheekpieces has seen the selection rack up wins at Down Royal and Naas, latterly scoring by four lengths from Equilove readily and that form took a boost when the runner-up ran well in defeat next time; while the fourth has struck a subsequent win.
Both those wins have come under this rider and while the handicapper has taken a dim view of her latest win with a 10lbs rise, she’s clearly going the right way and could have better still to come with the return to a softer surface no issue.
3:45 Thurles – Moyne Handicap (3yo+ 45-65) 1m
FOREIGN LEGION is thriving at present and James Larkin’s charge can follow up his recent success at Listowel where the Declaration Of War gelding ran out a comfortable winner over Ecoeye.
He had finished in the frame in each of his previous three starts but he seemed to get on well with Shane Foley in that last run and the title-chasing rider again takes the reins for this assignment where the pair can defy a 7lbs hike in the ratings.
His previous runner-up effort behind Angel Palanas at Listowel looks solid form with the winner since following up next time; while the third horse home from his breakthrough win chased home that winner next time out.
This trip and ground holds no fears and while his new mark will demand a shade more from him, he looks worth chancing given his current good vein of form and he can strike another success here.
4:15 Thurles – Littleton Handicap (3yo+ 45-65) 1m4½f
FRANNO travelled like the winner for a long way in her latest start at Fairyhouse seven days ago where the Free Eagle filly was well supported. However her effort petered out and she crossed the line in second behind Loudest Whisper.
Gerard Keane’s charge had finished third on each of his previous two outings at Down Royal and Dundalk respectively and he was running from 3lbs out of the weights in that latest run which possibly just stretched his stamina in the softer ground.
The handicapper has raised him 2lbs for that run but she could be worth chancing in her current vein of form to go one better dropping back to this trip on slightly less testing ground and if running to a similar level as last time then she could open her win account.
