TV TIPS AT YORK & SANDOWN – ITV RACING TIPS & BEST BETS ON SATURDAY
1:50 York – Sky Bet And Symphony Group Strensall Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m1f
Real World looked potentially high class when scoring in both the Royal Hunt Cup and Steventon Stakes and could be hard to beat; but course and distance winner and past champion LORD GLITTERS could be worth an interest at a big price.
David O’Meara’s admirable sort continues to ply his trade in very good company and won this prize in 2018 although he won just one more time in the next two years despite being kept to a very high level and he finished third in this contest last term.
The Whisper gelding won twice this term in the Emirates which included the Group One Jebel Hatta and he was far from disgraced in finishing fourth last time out in the Queen Anne Stakes where he was beaten three lengths into fourth behind Palace Pier.
He’s not getting any younger as an eight-year old but he continues to run to a high level and while he has to give away weight all round to this field he can make his presence felt here and no surprise if he were to go close especially if the ground were to remain quick.
2:05 Sandown – Betway Solario Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (2yo) 7f
REACH FOR THE MOON is likely to prove a tough nut to crack and John and Thady Gosden’s charge can double his win tally here.
The Sea The Stars colt had finished a good runner-up on each of his first two career starts at Yarmouth and in the Chesham Stakes at Ascot behind Point Lonsdale before getting off the mark at the third attempt, scoring at Newbury in a novices’ contest.
That form has been franked since – the runner-up has won both subsequent starts – and with the potential for improvement he’s likely to take plenty of beating.
2:25 York – Sky Bet Melrose Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 1m6f
OMAN has taken his form up a notch since being gelded, getting off the mark at Salisbury in May and finishing third in two subsequent outings at Haydock and Chester prior to getting back on the scoresheet back on the Roodeye latest.
Ralph Beckett’s charge had got to within a half-length of Side Shot when landing the second of his bronze medals and he latterly readily saw off Star Caliber by two lengths – the form of which is standing up quite well.
The Australia gelding proved this longer trip to be no problem last time and a 4lbs rise in the weights looks fair given he’s low mileage and likely to improve further so another big run wouldn’t come as a shock assuming his wide draw doesn’t prove an issue.
2:40 Sandown – Betway Atalanta Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m
SAFFRON BEACH drops back in class here and it might be worth chancing Jane Chapple-Hyam’s charge to bounce back to winning form.
The New Bay filly won both starts as a juvenile before getting to within a length of Sacred in the Nell Gwyn Stakes on her reappearance at Newmarket in April. She followed up that run with an excellent second in the 1000 Guineas but appeared not to stay the longer trip in the Epsom Oaks.
She didn’t fire in the Falmouth Stakes when last seen, beating only two home but she wasn’t helped by being hampered late on although she was well held and she could benefit from contesting in this easier grade.
Hollie Doyle takes over now and the yard is in decent form so a big effort wouldn’t come as a surprise here and she could go close if coming back to form tackling the easier assignment.
3:00 York – Sky Bet City Of York Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f
SPACE BLUES went through 2020 with four wins from five starts including the Prix Maurice De Gheest at Deauville and Charlie Appleby’s charge can get back on the scoresheet here.
The Dubawi entire made a winning reappearance at Riyadh in February before disappointing next time out; but he returned from a break to run a creditable fourth at Goodwood behind Kinross and that outing should have him spot on now.
He was beaten less than one length in that last run at the Sussex venue where he perhaps wasn’t seen to best effect and he remains capable of better so every chance he can bounce back here with a return to winning ways.
3:35 York – Sky Bet Ebor Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (4yo+) 1m6f
SONNYBOYLISTON wasn’t seen to best effect here in the John Smith’s Silver Cup, eventually finishing sixth to Hukum and it might be worth chancing Johnny Murtagh’s charge to bounce back.
The Power gelding won three times in 2020 but has improved again this term faced with stiffer tests, winning a Listed contest over twelve furlongs at Limerick and he didn’t appear stretched by this longer trip last time out.
He’s been dropped 1lb since that run and steps back into a handicap while he remains with scope so could well have more to offer still. While this is a competitive handicap his shrewd handler knows a thing or two about winning races such as this and he can go close.
