ITV RACING TIPS FOR SATURDAY 29 FEBRUARY AT A GLANCE

1:50 Doncaster – SAKHEE’S CITY (9/1, 888Sport)
2:12 Kelso – PROTEK DES FLOS (7/1, Ladbrokes)
2:25 Doncaster – NUTS WELL (9/2, 888Sport)
2:45 Kelso – CHEDDLETON (5/1, William Hill)
3:00 Doncaster – CILL ANNA (4/5, 888Sport)
3:22 Kelso – DEFINITELY RED (4/6, William Hill)
3:35 Doncaster – WORTHY FARM (3/1, 888Sport)

1:50 Doncaster – 888Sport Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+ 0-145) 3m½f

SAKHEE’S CITY (9/1, 888Sport) could be worth chancing to get back on the winning trail and Philip Kirby’s charge can make his presence felt here.

The Sakhee gelding was a soft ground winner at Wetherby in November, beating Mount Mews and he possibly found the heavy ground too testing on his next start at Haydock. However, he bounced back with a good runner-up effort behind West To The Bridge back at Wetherby last month where he travelled strongly but couldn’t match the winner for effort at the business end.

The return to a longer trip and he is thoroughly unexposed at this distance, while the better ground is unlikely to present a problem. This is tougher upped to a Class Two contest; but he can race from the same mark as last time and no surprise to see him going well at a big price in an open contest.

2:12 Kelso – Cyril Alexander Memorial Chase (A Novices’ Limited Handicap) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-135) 2m1f

PROTEK DES FLOS (7/1, Ladbrokes) might be worth chancing to get back on the winning trail having ran a shade disappointingly when last see at Wetherby in January.

A two-time winner for Nicky Henderson, the Protektor gelding was entitled to have needed his return from more than 550 days off the track at Newcastle in December where he finished five lengths’ third to Dali Mail on his first start for Ben Haslam.

He was never competitive last time, failing to get into the race having been held up; but he is probably better than he was able to show there and having been eased 2lbs in the weights he could post a big effort back at this shorter trip.

Still relatively unexposed over fences, he remains with some scope given he was rated higher over hurdles and he won his only previous try at this trip so could run well.

2:25 Doncaster – 888Sport Bet £10 Get £30 Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 2m½f

NUTS WELL (9/2, 888Sport) is on a roll at present, racking up a hat-trick of wins when successful latest at Wetherby to go with earlier victories at that venue and Musselburgh.

Ann Hamilton’s Dylan Thomas gelding ran out a four lengths’ victor over Clan Legend in that last outing, scoring readily and a subsequent 6lbs rise might not prove enough of a burden to preventing him from adding another success.

The drop back to two miles is no issue and the ground will suit. He finished fourth in this race twelve months ago having been given too much to do; but he can post a big effort here as he bids to keep his winning run going and he ought to go well again with Danny McMenamin able to take 3lbs off his back.

2:45 Kelso – William Hill Premier Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m2f

A few decent sorts on show in this contest and a chance is taken on CHEDDLETON (5/1, William Hill) to cope with the step up in class.

Jennie Candlish’s charge arrives here on the back of impressive wins at Bangor and this venue latest where he ran out an easy four lengths’ victor over Jabbaar, finding plenty to win a shade readily in the end.

The third horse home in that race has won since, and the Shirocco gelding could be suited by this extra distance so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him improve again.

On the balance of his form he’ll have to improve, but he’s proven over this course and in the conditions and he looks worth risking to find the requisite progress and make his presence felt in this Grade Two contest.

3:00 Doncaster – 888Sport Take ‘Em On Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Listed Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 3m½f

CILL ANNA (4/5, 888Sport) arrives here on a hat-trick of wins having already struck at Warwick and Wincanton this term. Paul Nicholls’ charge can take the rise in class in her stride to strike again.

The Imperial Monarch mare latterly ran out a seven lengths’ winner over Miss Honey Ryder when last seen out in January and that form has been boosted in no uncertain terms with the runner-up, third and fourth horses all posting subsequent successes.

This further step up in trip is unlikely to present an issue and with the potential for further improvement still to come given she is still unexposed then she could prove a tough nut to crack in this contest where she can land the three-timer.

3:22 – William Hill Leading Racecourse Bookmaker Premier Chase (Listed Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 2m7½f

DEFINITELY RED (4/6, William Hill) is the proven class horse in this contest and while there is a suspicion that Brian Ellison’s charge might not be the force of old, he could still have too much firepower for his four rivals.

The Definite Article gelding is in the twilight of his career, but he remains capable of solid form as he showed when chasing home Vintage Clouds in the Peter Marsh Chase last month and a replication of that effort might be good enough.

He’s not won since winning the 2018 Many Clouds Chase at Aintree; but this represents his easiest assignment of the season thus far easing into Listed company and he is favoured on these terms so every chance he can get off the mark for the campaign with a success in this contest where first-time cheekpieces might help to perk him up.

3:35 Doncaster – 888Sport Grimthorpe Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 3m2f

Graded winner Definitely Red sets the standard and the classy individual could go well although he looks to have plenty of weight and the rapidly improving WORTHY FARM (3/1, 888Sport) can land a hat-trick of wins.

The Beneficial gelding has progressed with each start over fences and the dual-winning hurdler arrives here on the back of a pair of wins at Wincanton in recent weeks including a defeat of The Kings Writ latest by two lengths.

That form has taken a couple of knocks, while this represents a step up in class. However, the application of blinkers has really got his game on and he is 2-2 in this headgear and there likely is better still to come from him judging on his latest success.

A 7lbs rise in the weights does demand more, but he’s certainly going the right way and could improve again to land the three-timer.
