KILLARNEY TIPS ON WEDNESDAY – IRISH HORSE RACING BEST BETS
5:25 Killarney – Castleisland Rated Race (3yo+) 1m
STAR HARBOUR has looked a steadily progressive sort in his runs this year, winning at Navan despite being out of the handicap and running well in defeat when last seen at Down Royal where the Sea The Stars gelding might have been stretched by the longer trip in finishing six lengths adrift of Iowa.
Adrian McGuinness’ charge drops back markedly in trip for this latest outing which sees him return to one mile, and while he won over further latest he should have little trouble racing over this much shorter distance.
If resuming his front-running tactics that he displayed at Navan the time before he could be a tough nut to crack if allowed a soft lead and he can get back on track here.
5:55 Killarney – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cairn Rouge Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) (3yo+) 1m
MEHNAH won readily on debut at Dundalk last September, shaping like a potentially smart sort and the Frankel filly stepped up on that performance when finding only Keeper Of Time too good by a head when making her seasonal reappearance in the Group Three 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown in April.
Kevin Prendergast’s charge took a little time to get going on that occasion and she wasn’t helped by being bumped when the field turned in; but she finished off the race strongly and just failed to overhaul the winner who got first run to land a surprise big odds victory.
The sixth from that race has won twice since including a French Group One as well as finish runner-up in the Irish 1000 Guineas proper so the form could prove very strong with others in the race also running well in defeat and there could be more to come from her.
She can improve again and while her outside stall isn’t the best position to be in she’s a potentially smart prospect who can step up again to resume winning ways.
6:25 Killarney – Kenmare Handicap (Div I) (4yo+ 45-65) 1m
LADY LEANORA is quickly turned out after a very promising third on her handicap debut at Navan last month and the Tough As Nails filly can get off the mark now.
Dermot Weld’s charge showed improved form from her maiden efforts to finish five lengths’ third behind Dance Emperor where she travelled well into the race but perhaps failed to last home having been headed and finding only one pace in the last furlong.
She drops back to one mile here which might help her cause and likely to have further improvement to come she can get off the mark here.
7:25 Killarney – Sneem Handicap (3yo) 1m3f
RIGHT TURN is progressing in handicaps, finishing runner-up in each of his last two outings and Ger Lyons’ charge can get off the mark now.
The Kodiac gelding stepped up from his efforts in maiden contests when finishing a good fifth to Aurora Princess at Leopardstown in June and he has subsequently gone close in starts at Down Royal and Limerick latterly, finishing two lengths’ second to National Ballet.
Perhaps the softer ground just told on him late on as he wandered under pressure when challenging although the winner did win well in the end; but he can do better still and the return to a quicker surface can show him in a good light despite the rise in the weights he has to carry here.
