Loader’s Lucky 15 – best bets on Sunday, January 12

Chris Loader rolls some Sunday selections into this Lucky 15, covering races at Punchestown and Kelso on Sunday 12th January.

Carefully Selected (1.05 Punchestown)

This Willie Mullins-trained horse could potentially be one to follow at the spring festivals in novice chases. Last time out, he won on chasing debut at Fairyhouse and made a few mistakes, but the form is not bad and he is likely to improve. The oppositio here do not look the strongest and I’ve a got a feeling he can give us a winning start.

Cheb De Kerviniou (2.10 Punchestown)

Cheb De Kerviniou made a pleasing debut for Gordon Elliott when finishing second behind Biddy The Boss. However, I think he’s got a strong chance of turning over the form here and it’s interesting that Patrick Mullins has been booked. The ten-year-old’s form was strong in France and on his last start he finished fourth in a Grade 3 Handicap. Surely he can go all the way.

Big River (3.00 Kelso)

Big River has an excellent course record at Kelso with 5 wins from 7 starts. Last time we saw him he looked to be travelling well when he was brought down in the Borders National. He’s now rated 137 which still looks well within his ability. Today might be the day to catch him

Flaming Glory (3.35 Kelso)

The handicapper obviously thought something of Flaming Glory as he was rated 100 when the season started and now he’s running off 85. He’s been a strong traveller in his races and caught the eye running into third place at Newcastle. That hopefully can be something to build on and he could be one to make the frame in a weak race.
