MONDAY BALLINROBE RACING TIPS – IRISH HORSE RACING BEST BETS
4:20 Ballinrobe – Ballinrobe Racecourse Centenary Claiming Race (4yo+) 1m1½f
It might be worth giving another chance to SHEILA who was a fair sort for Hugo Palmer last term, winning at Chelmsford and making the frame on another couple of occasions prior to a move to Denis Hogan.
The Australia filly may have found a big field not to her liking on her return from five months off when failing to beat a rival home behind Magic Chegaga at the Curragh on her yard debut.
However she takes on less rivals now and with a run under her belt she could be capable of better, while stronger handling from the saddle will be a benefit so there’d be no surprise if she were to turn in an improved effort dropping into a claimer.
4:55 Ballinrobe – John Rochford Memorial Maiden (3yo+) 1m1½f
FLYIN HAWAIIAN showed glimpses of ability earlier in the campaign without ever threatening to trouble the judge; but Ger Lyons’ charge returned from a couple of months off with an improved effort at Limerick earlier in July and the Free Eagle gelding can build on that run here with the longer trip expected to suit.
He was beaten into third on that occasion behind Baseman but shaped as if he’d appreciate more of a test and this extra furlong could bring about some improvement.
The form of that last run took a small boost when the runner-up filled the same spot next time out and representing a yard that is in good form he’s expected to give another good account here where he can get off the mark in a winnable race.
5:25 Ballinrobe – Lakes Gift Card Handicap (3yo 45-75) 1m1½f
BEN SIEGEL has been steadily progressive in each of his runs, latterly posting a career-best when chasing home Sea Appeal at Killarney earlier in the month and Noel Meade’s charge can open his account here.
The Tamayuz gelding was no match for the winner on that occasion, beaten almost four lengths; but he wasn’t seen to best effect having been denied a clear run before finishing off strongly to dead-head for the minor places and a repeat of that effort ought to put him firmly in the mix here.
He only has 1lb more to carry and this quicker surface can yield some improvement so there’d be no surprise in seeing him going close.
6:55 Ballinrobe – David Heneghan Memorial Handicap (3yo+) 1m4½f
PHOENIX COWBOY showed some fair form in maiden company last term and Ger Lyons’ charge took a big step forward when making a winning return to action from almost eleven months off the track when successful over course and distance last month.
The Gleneagles gelding struck by a half-length from My Mate Mozzie, battling back well once headed to get up again close home having led around the two pole but being headed in the last furlong and the front two pulled clear of the rest.
That form hasn’t been done any real harm with the third since running well in a pair of valuable contests and he switches to handicapping now from a mark that looks potentially lenient given he’s open to further improvement.
There’d be no surprise then to see him competitive again and he can double his tally for his in-form yard.
