RACING BEST BETS ON SATURDAY – TIPS FOR THE DAY’S UK HORSE RACING MEETINGS

1:50 Newbury – bet365 Stakes (Registered As The Steventon Stakes) (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m2f

REAL WORLD showed some useful form on the all-weather and on dirt at Meydan over the winter and Saeed bin Suroor’s charge was impressive when tackling turf for the first time at Ascot in June when romping to a five lengths’ victory over Astro King in the Royal Hunt Cup.

The Dark Angel colt wore first-time cheekpieces on that occasion and he ran out a comfortable winner so could have more to come and ought to make his mark at this higher level.

He’ll have no issue with this longer trip having won over ten furlongs on his debut last October and the manner of that Ascot success suggests he could do even better back at this distance so every chance he’ll improve and he can go well upped in trip and class.

2:05 Market Rasen – Betway Summer Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl2 (3yo+) 2m½f

Emma Lavelle runs two in this race and VOICE OF CALM might be the one to side with here.

The Poet’s Voice mare was a winner on the flat form Harry Dunlop last June and she’s taken well to hurdling to win two of her four starts in this sphere, latterly beating Calliope by four lengths at Cartmel where she ran out a comfortable winner.

That form might not be up to much and the handicapper hasn’t taken any chances with a 9lbs rise in the weights for that success. However she’s open to plenty of further improvement over obstacles after just four starts in this sphere and she’ll be suited by the likely strong pace so there’d be no surprise to see her going close in this competitive heat.

Racing best bets on Saturday. Emma Lavelle can saddle a winner on the card at Market Rasen.

2:40 Market Rasen – Betway Summer Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m5½f

FIRE AWAY is 5-7 since joining Laura Morgan and the Getaway gelding can continue in form to register another win.

Formerly trained in Ireland he’s really got his act together for this yard, winning both over hurdles and fences and his last chase win two runs ago at Cartmel suggested the handicapper had yet to catch up to him as he ran out an easy five lengths’ winner.

He subsequently struck over hurdles latest by six lengths and while he’s off a much higher mark back over fences he might not have reached the ceiling of his improvement just yet and he can make his presence felt once more here where he can enhance his good strike-rate of late.

3:05 Cartmel – William Hill Cumbria Crystal Cup Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (4yo+ 0-135) 2m6f

This is quite competitive and SHETLAND BUS can follow up his latest victory over course and distance three weeks ago.

The Sholokhov gelding was winning for the first time since late 2019 where he was also successful at Musselburgh, but he’s been largely consistent in defeat with a number of efforts in the frame prior to that return to the winners’ enclosure having saw off First Account by one length.

Justin Landy’s charge has seen that runner-up win next time to boost the form and a 4lbs rise in the weights might not be enough of an anchor to prevent him going in again.

3:30 Newmarket – Ric And Mary Hambro Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f

GOLDEN PASS can get back on the winning trail here and add to her tally of three wins from six starts, the latest of which came when beating Throne Hall at Thirsk in April.

Since that victory Hugo Palmer’s charge returned from a short break to find only Katara too strong at Pontefract last month, going down by just a head where she was run down late by the winner.

Proven over trip and ground the Golden Horn filly is one who still has more improvement to come and she’s going the right way; she can continue her progress here where she can get back to winning ways although this is certainly a competitive contest.

3:40 Newbury – Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes (GBB Race) Cl2 (2yo) 5f

Richard Hannon and Sean Levy combined to win this race twelve months ago and the duo can repeat the feat with GUBBASS who was a ready winner on his debut at Leicester in April and the Mehmas colt can double up here.

Well-backed that day he struck by two lengths from Tothenines and he’ll surely come on for that experience so likely has more to offer; while the form has since been boosted with the third horse home winning twice since including a decent prize at Pontefract prior to contesting the Coventry Stakes.

He hasn’t been seen out since that debut so there’s a slight worry over his fitness in such a competitive contest; but if lack of a recent outing doesn’t hold him back then there’s every chance he can make his presence felt here and he can go close for last year’s winning trainer and jockey pairing.

Racing best bets on Saturday. Richard Hannon can saddle another Weatherbys Super Sprint winner at Newbury.

4:30 Ripon – Titanium Racing Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-100) 1m4f

A chance is taken that BRASCA can bounce back to winning form having possibly found the longer trips stretching his stamina the last twice.

Ralph Beckett’s charge is a four-time winner at up to 1m 6f, the latest of those victories coming at Salisbury in April when beating Dreamweaver by a neck. He’s since contested the Chester Plate and Northumberland Vase over 2m+ with little success, but he could do better dropping back to this distance.

This also looks a slightly easier contest and two of his wins have come around this distance; he’s been dropped 1lb in the weights following his last outing and there would be no surprise in seeing him do better back in trip taking on a smaller field.

4:40 Newmarket – Avenue Bloodstock Maiden Stakes Cl4 (3yo+) 7f

SWEET ENOUGH has got better with each run, finishing fifth on her return from more than nine months off behind the promising Riknnah at Lingfield before chasing home Passionova here last month where the Lope De Vega filly was only beaten one length.

A winner has since come out of that last race and there could be more to come from John and Thady Gosden’s charge who can go well once more and get off the mark at the fourth attempt.

An expensive purchase she has shown enough to suggest she can certainly win races and with improvement likely she might prove the one to beat here.

7:05 Doncaster – Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-95) 7f

HORTZADAR isn’t the most reliable of performers, but he did hold his form quite well last season where he won three times and while he’s been a bit hit or miss this term David O’Meara’s charge can get back to winning ways.

The Sepoy gelding finished third in the Lincoln here back in March before a couple of lesser efforts; but he turned in one of his better efforts at Epsom in May behind Corazon Espinado prior to a no-show in the Royal Hunt Cup where he finished nearer last than first.

This represents a drop in grade for the six-year old who does have plenty of weight to carry; but he could be set for a big performance in this easier company and if he isn’t hindered by his big burden then it isn’t hard to see him turn in a winning run if on his game.

Racing best bets on Saturday. Hortzadar can get back on the winning trail at Doncaster.

7:20 Haydock – MB Health Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-95) 5f

ISLE OF LISMORE has been in good heart this term since returning from six months off the track, registering wins at both Catterick and Newmarket and finishing third on both times he met with defeat.

Robert Cowell’s charge won a Class 2 contest at Newmarket for the second his seasonal wins, beating Razor Glass by two lengths and his latest third behind Whenthedealinsdone was another solid effort.

This higher rating may not be out of his range given his current vein of form and he remains with potential so the Zebedee gelding can turn in another big performance here if continuing his good spell.
