RACING BEST BETS ON THURSDAY – TIPS FOR THE DAY’S JUMPS & FLAT RACING FIXTURES
1:12 Sedgefield – Cavellos Italian Steakhouse Gin & Cocktail Bar Handicap Chase Cl4 (4yo+ 0-110) 2m3½f
CILLUIRID won for this column seven days ago over this course and distance and Tim Easterby’s charge can make light work of his 7lbs penalty to go in again.
The Arcadio gelding is 2-2 at this venue over fences and he ran out a comfortable eleven lengths’ victor last time out having opened his chase account in September where he saw off a subsequent dual-winner.
He’s 4lbs well in here at the weights despite his penalty as he’s due to go up further in the handicap in future starts and a repeat of that last will surely put him firmly in the mix here.
1:40 Market Rasen – Bud Booth Mares’ Chase (Listed Race) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 3m
Chilli Filli had CASABLANCA MIX one length behind when taking this race twelve months ago but it may be worth siding with the Shirocco mare to turn the tables here with a run under her belt and meeting her old rival on better terms than last season.
Nicky Henderson’s charge perhaps isn’t as good as she once was and she was well beaten in the wake of this contest when only fourth at Doncaster behind Annie Mc back in December.
She shaped as if in need of the run when making her reappearance in the Prelude over this course last month but she ought to progress on the back of that effort and she has an 8lbs pull at the weights with her conquerer in this race twelve months ago so she could exact revenge if stepping up for that return.
2:02 Taunton – Taunton Racecourse Business Club Novices’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m2f
NAIZAGAI represents a yard that is flying at present and the Dark Angel gelding can get back to wining ways her and open his account over fences.
Fergal O’Brien’s charge hasn’t won since August 2020 over hurdles but there was encouragement to be had from his chase debut where he found only Crack Du Ninian too strong at Sedgefield, beaten just over one length and both that race-winner and the third home have won since to boost that form.
He may not have been entirely suited by Kempton when last seen, fading into fourth and not helped by a mistake at the third last; however it is still early days with him and he remains capable of better for his in-form yard.
2:10 Market Rasen – Racing TV Novices’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 3m
PRESENT CHIEF is given another chance having not been seen to best effect at Carlisle last time and Jonjo O’Neill’s charge remains capable of better.
The Presenting gelding was a dual-winner over hurdles last term and he shaped with plenty of encouragement on his chase debut when finishing just over one length third at Worcester in September.
His jumping let him down at a crucial stage of the race last time, just getting into contention before being halted by back-to-back errors which cost him dearly and he couldn’t recover the ground he had lost.
The handicapper has eased her 2lbs in the weights while Kevin Brogan can claim a further 3lbs so he’s handicapped to go well and remains open to improvement in this sphere following just two starts.
6:00 Chelmsford – EBF Novice Stakes Cl4 (3yo+) 7f
LONE FIGHTER doesn’t face an easy task on these terms given he carries as penalty as the sole winner in the field, but the Dawn Approach colt can shrug off that negative to strike a second career win here.
Saeed bin Suroor’s cahrge stepped up on a promising introduction at this course last November and he returned from more than eleven months off to narrowly get the better of Major Ja at Kempton earlier in the month where he appeared to do the job quite easily.
There surely better to come from the Godolphin representative and he can successfully overcome his penalty here to double up his win tally.
6:30 Chelmsford – chelmsfordcityracecourse.com Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 1m6f
LIVERPOOL KNIGHT produced a career-best effort to run out an impressive victor of a Wolverhampton handicap on just his second try at this trip and the Golden Horn gelding looks worth siding with to follow up.
Alan King’s charge had won at the same venue for John Gosden back in February but he hasn’t proved quite as good on turf and he was only fifth to Cemhaan at Salisbury on his first attempt at this trip although the ground was soft that day.
He’s penalised for that latest success, but now he’s got his head in front he could still be fairly treated off his new mark and he ought to continue to give a good account where he can win again.
