RACING TIPS ON WEDNESDAY 6 OCTOBER – BEST BETS FOR THE DAY’S UK RACEMEETINGS
2:05 Ludlow – Margaret Roberts Remembrance Handicap Chase Cl3 (4yo+ 0-140) 3m
SHOAL BAY won this race twelve months ago and Colin Tizzard’s charge can take the top prize one more and gain some compensation for his unlucky loss at Worcester last month where he had the race at his mercy when unshipping jockey Brendan Powell on the flat.
The Gold Well gelding suffered a slipped saddle on that occasion which marked his return from eleven months off the track and he had the race in safe keeping only for that to happen.
However a repeat of that performance should see him hard to beat here despite being 9lbs higher in the weights than he was when taking this prize last year. He’ll be sharper this time around with that last run under his belt and compensation could be his for the taking here.
2:13 Sedgefield – Sprayclad UK Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (3yo+ 0-115) 2m4f
JUST CALL ME AL comes into this race on the back of a confidence-boosting win over course and distance win and under a penalty Gillian Boanas’ charge can double up.
The Presenting gelding seemed to find some improvement when making his return from a short break and wind surgery to finish a decent fourth at Hexham the time before and that form was given a boost when the third won next time out.
He ran out a ready winner latest when upped to this trip and posted a five lengths’ defeat of Soldier On Parade, running on well from the last to score with something to spare and if turning out here in similar form he could be up to defying a 7lbs penalty and land another win.
3:40 Nottingham – MansionBet Bet £10 Get £20 Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 1m½f
GWEEDORE has been in top form of late and the Epaulette gelding can keep his good run going here.
Katie Scott’s charge has won four of his last six starts which incudes a hat-trick in his last three and he won a shade readily at Ayr when last seen eight days ago, beating Coase by three-parts of a length having made all and finding enough in front to hold off the runner-up and third.
He won with more in hand than the official winning margin might suggest and racing off the same mark here and with conditions ideal he should be competitive again and can continue to produce the goods in what looks a decent contest with a few in-form types in opposition.
4:15 Nottingham – British Stallion Studs EBF Nursery Handicap Cl3 (2yo 0-95) 1m2f
SHARVARA has been steadily progressive in his runs to date, winning for this column three weeks ago when getting off the mark in deep ground at Hamilton and Richard Hannon’s charge can repeat the dose.
The well-bred Kingman colt powered through the mud on that occasion, making all for a decisive four lengths’ defeat of Dark Mystery and he makes his handicap debut here where a mark of 81 may not prove beyond him given his potential to improve.
This will be harder but he turned in a useful performance last time and can build on that breakthrough win upped in trip and with conditions unlikely to be a problem he ought to make his presence felt here.
4:33 Sedgefield – Vickers Independent Family Run Bookmaker Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (3yo+ 0-110) 2m1f
LORD CAPRIO could be worth siding with to follow up his recent victory at Hexham last month and Ben Haslam’s charge can go in again.
The Lord Shanakill gelding had been in fair form beforehand, making the frame in starts at Cartmel and Hexham before going in at the latter track latest when beating Sea Prince by one length to register his second victory at that venue.
The third and fourth from that race have both scored since to boost the form and he has placed from higher marks than his current 96 rating including when finishing runner-up here a couple of seasons ago from 107 so he should remain competitive and the lightly-raced sort should make his presence felt.
5:30 Kempton – Unibet New Instant Roulette Maiden Fillies’ Stakes Cl5 (3yo+) 1m3f
SWISS MISTRESS offered plenty to work on when finishing fourth on debut at Yarmouth back in May and while she hasn’t been seen out again since it may be worth chancing Peter Chapple-Hyam’s charge to progress for the experience and make a winning return.
Slowly away on that occasion she got into a challenging position and held every chance into the final furlong before her effort petered out. That form though looks very strong and the winner, Kemari, has won a Group Two since and contested at the Arc Meeting; while the third has won twice.
Likely to have more to offer she can go well here if fully wound up ahead of her return from more than four months off and with Oisin Murphy in the saddle a big run wouldn’t come as a surprise here.
