SATURDAY DOWN ROYAL TIPS – BEST BETS FOR THE DAY’S IRISH RACING ACTION
1:10 Down Royal – Lagan Valley Steels Maiden (2yo) 5f
DREAM OASIS stepped up on a moderate introduction where she looked very green to chase home Sea Breezing over this course and distance earlier in the month and further improvement can see Jessica Harrington’s charge get off the mark.
The Oasis Dream filly was only beaten a half-length on that last occasion, briefly leading entering the last furlong but unable to sustain her effort and match the thrust of the winner; however she’ll have gleaned a little more experience from that outing and she’s open to plenty of progress so can do better here.
With her yard in decent form and with course and distance form already in the book it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see her firmly in the mix once more and she can confirm the places with third-placed Caleta Sunrise here.
1:45 Down Royal – Molson Coors Handicap (3yo+) 5f
ART OF UNITY has returned from eight months off the track in good form, winning a big-field contest at Navan in May before going close back there last month when denied only by a head behind Lord Mczie.
John Feane’s charge was run down close home that day by the winner, almost defying the 11lbs rise in the weights handed to him by the handicapper for his earlier success. The Mazameer gelding has another 3lbs rise to contend with but he might be capable of going in again given he arrives in good form.
The ground was slightly softer than ideal last time also so this better surface will play more to his strengths and he can get back to winning ways despite his hike up the weights.
3:25 Down Royal – BoyleSports Ulster Derby (Premier Handicap) (3yo) 1m4½f
This looks wide open and SNOWY OWL can get back to winning ways for Donnacha O’Brien having filled the places in each of his last three starts.
The Galileo colt struck his sole success last term at Kilbeggan in August, but having been stepped up in trip this term he’s taken his form up a level and most recently was only beaten around three lengths into third behind Cape Islay at Limerick seven days ago.
He’s since been dropped 1lb in the weights and he receives weight all round from this field while the application of cheekpieces could elicit some improvement. Representing a yard in decent form he could make his presence felt in this competitive contest where he can take advantage of his relative featherweight to strike an overdue win.
4:00 Down Royal – BoyleSports Irish EBF Ulster Oaks Fillies & Mares Handicap (3yo+) 1m2½f
SOLENE LILYETTE was winless for Dermot Weld but did show bits and pieces of form; however following her move to Andrew Slattery the Pivotal filly has won both her starts and could take another forward step here.
Following a win on her seasonal reappearance and first start for this yard at Limerick in April she stepped up on that peformance in handicap company where she ran out a three lengths’ winner over Hayyel and there’s surely more to come from her given the easy manner of that victory.
The handicapper has taken a dim view of that success however with a 12lbs rise in the ratings which does look harsh; but she’s going the right way and could improve further so is taken to land her hat-trick here.
