SATURDAY IRISH RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR KILLARNEY & CURRAGH
2:50 Killarney – BoyleSports Live Casino Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m6f
WALKING ON GLASS has been in good form over hurdles of late, losing the race in the stewards’ room at Punchestown in May but gaining compensation for that loss when readily landing the odds at Kilbeggan in July where he beat Go Another One.
Padraig Roche’s charge subsequently ran well on the flat at Galway on his latest racecourse appearance and the Big Bad Bob gelding could post another big run here back over timber.
He wasn’t seen to best effect last time out at Galway but gave the impression he was still in good form and that race has thrown up a couple of subsequent winners. While he’s higher in the weights back over timber following a 8lbs rise in the handicap he should make his presence felt again if continuing his good spell and no surprise to see him going close.
4:35 Killarney – BoyleSports Handicap Chase (Grade B) (4yo+) 2m4f
BATICO had been in decent heart earlier in the campaign, twice finishing third in starts at Navan and Tramore before returning from a short break to strike at Wexford in June and Ted Walsh’s charge can return to winning ways here.
The Montmartre gelding didn’t put his best foot forward here last time out in July behind Capuccimix, finishing sixth although he wasn’t helped by being hampered early and losing ground and he was again hampered later in the race although he was well held by that point and unlikely to have been a factor.
That was a decent prize and arguably stronger than this contest so he could bounce back with Brian Hayes taking over from a claimer and going up in trip while the handicapper has eased him slightly in the weights so a big run here wouldn’t come as a shock for all he needs a little more on the back of that lesser effort last time.
4:55 Curragh – DMG Media Irish EBF Maiden (2yo) 6f
HMS ENDEAVOUR showed plenty to work on when finishing third on debut at Naas last month and with that experience under his belt the War Front colt can improve to get off the mark at the second attempt.
He finished around four lengths’ fourth on that occasion behind Recurrent Dream, racing keenly and looking green under pressure; that race though has thrown up a subsequent winner while the race victor has since acquitted himself well in the Ballyhane Stakes so the form could prove useful.
With the potential for better to come on the back of that debut he ought to be firmly in the mix here and every chance he can open his win account under Ryan Moore now.
5:30 Curragh – Coolmore Arizona Irish EBF Maiden (2yo) 1m
DUKE DE SESSA ran a really encouraging debut at Galway last month, almost overcoming a slow start and running wide into the straight when finishing less than one length third behind I Am Magic and with that experience under his belt Dermot Weld’s charge could prove a tough nut to crack.
The Lope De Vega colt had a subsequent winner behind him on that occasion and it was a hugely creditable run given what went wrong for him during the race.
He was only a head behind reopposing Anchorage who had the better passage through the race and also open to improvement; but it might be worth sticking with the Weld horse on this occasion to turn the tables given he had a worse run through but wasn’t beaten far and he can come out on top.
6:05 Curragh – Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes (Group 2) (2yo) 7f
DISCOVERIES could win this for Jessica Harrington who trained the horse this race is named after, Alpha Centauri, and the Mastercraftsman filly can improve again on her recent victory to double her win tally.
The Harrington runner had shaped well on her debut when finishing fourth at Leopardstown in June but showed the benefit of that experience to strike next time over course and distance where she held off the late challenge of Tuesday to score by a short-head.
The third from that race has won since and reopposes here but the Harrington runner can show further improvement to uphold that form and she ought to make her presence felt again here assuming the softer ground doesn’t prove an inconvenience.
