SATURDAY LIVE TV BEST BETS – ITV RACING TIPS AT NEWBURY, MARKET RASEN & CURRAGH
1:50 Newbury – bet365 Stakes (Registered As The Steventon Stakes) (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m2f
REAL WORLD showed some useful form on the all-weather and on dirt at Meydan over the winter and Saeed bin Suroor’s charge was impressive when tackling turf for the first time at Ascot in June when romping to a five lengths’ victory over Astro King in the Royal Hunt Cup.
The Dark Angel colt wore first-time cheekpieces on that occasion and he ran out a comfortable winner so could have more to come and ought to make his mark at this higher level.
He’ll have no issue with this longer trip having won over ten furlongs on his debut last October and the manner of that Ascot success suggests he could do even better back at this distance so every chance he’ll improve and he can go well upped in trip and class.
2:05 Market Rasen – Betway Summer Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl2 (3yo+) 2m½f
Emma Lavelle runs two in this race and VOICE OF CALM might be the one to side with here.
The Poet’s Voice mare was a winner on the flat form Harry Dunlop last June and she’s taken well to hurdling to win two of her four starts in this sphere, latterly beating Calliope by four lengths at Cartmel where she ran out a comfortable winner.
That form might not be up to much and the handicapper hasn’t taken any chances with a 9lbs rise in the weights for that success. However she’s open to plenty of further improvement over obstacles after just four starts in this sphere and she’ll be suited by the likely strong pace so there’d be no surprise to see her going close in this competitive heat.
2:25 Newbury – Bahrain Turf Series Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 2m½f
MILDENBERGER might be worth chancing to bounce back from a lesser run at Sandown last time out behind Red Verdon and Mark Johnston’s charge can do better.
The Teofilo horse is a previous winner here and he has won at Listed level earlier in his career as well as finish in the frame in Group company; he may not be quite at that level now but he remains capable of smart form as he showed when winning at Wolverhampton in January and making a solid return in the Northumberland Plate following more than four months off where he finished fifth.
It is possible that Sandown outing might have come too soon just six days on but he’s had a bit more of a break and he’s dropped another 3lbs so looks handicapped to go well if over recent exertions.
2:40 Market Rasen – Betway Summer Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m5½f
FIRE AWAY is 5-7 since joining Laura Morgan and the Getaway gelding can continue in form to register another win.
Formerly trained in Ireland he’s really got his act together for this yard, winning both over hurdles and fences and his last chase win two runs ago at Cartmel suggested the handicapper had yet to catch up to him as he ran out an easy five lengths’ winner.
He subsequently struck over hurdles latest by six lengths and while he’s off a much higher mark back over fences he might not have reached the ceiling of his improvement just yet and he can make his presence felt once more here where he can enhance his good strike-rate of late.
3:00 Newbury – bet365 Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f
King’s Lynn will likely be popular on the back of two good runs at Royal Ascot where he met trouble both times, but TABDEED might be worth sticking with to win this race for a second straight year and Owen Burrows’ charge should strip fitter for a solid reappearance in the Chipchase Stakes.
The Havana Gold gelding had found only Glen Shiel too good on his reappearance last term prior to taking this prize at the expense of The Tin Man and soft ground was possibly against him in the Betfair Sprint Cup.
He made a good reappearance to finish fourth at Newcastle last month, making late gains but not getting to the leaders but he ought to come on for that run and can make his presence felt here with the drying ground in his favour.
3:10 Market Rasen – Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-150) 2m7f
TASTE THE FEAR has been on good terms with himself this term, winning at Hexham back in March and resuming winning ways following a couple of placed efforts when going in over this distance at Uttoxeter last month.
Dr Richard Newland’s charge was arguably unlucky not to win at Worcester latest where the winner ran across him and he suffered some interference; but the stewards left the places unaltered and he was certainly one to take out of that race.
He’s only up 3lbs for that effort and a repeat ought to see him firmly in the mix here where he can gain some compensation.
3:25 Curragh – Juddmonte Irish Oaks (Group 1) (3yo) 1m4f
It is really difficult to oppose SNOWFALL who demolished a strong field to land the Epsom Oaks last month and Aidan O’Brien’s charge is likely to prove a tough nut to crack as she bids to follow up here.
The Deep Impact filly kept decent company last term but couldn’t add to her win at the Curragh in July when tried in Group company; but the step up to middle distances this term has certainly yielded improvement as she took the Musidora Stakes in grand style prior to posting that Epsom success where she romped to a wide margin victory of 16 lengths.
All her wins have come on softer ground but she ought to handle this quicker ground and it would be a shock if she were to come up short here.
3:40 Newbury – Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes (GBB Race) Cl2 (2yo) 5f
Richard Hannon and Sean Levy combined to win this race twelve months ago and the duo can repeat the feat with GUBBASS who was a ready winner on his debut at Leicester in April and the Mehmas colt can double up here.
Well-backed that day he struck by two lengths from Tothenines and he’ll surely come on for that experience so likely has more to offer; while the form has since been boosted with the third horse home winning twice since including a decent prize at Pontefract prior to contesting the Coventry Stakes.
He hasn’t been seen out since that debut so there’s a slight worry over his fitness in such a competitive contest; but if lack of a recent outing doesn’t hold him back then there’s every chance he can make his presence felt here and he can go close for last year’s winning trainer and jockey pairing.
