The one to stop here has to be THE BOOLA BEE (NAP), who won twice in three mile contests similar to this during a week at the backend of last season and shaped like he’d come on from the run on his return off a career-high mark.
Nigel Hawke’s had only previously attempted three miles once before over fences, pulling up on very heavy ground at Uttoxeter, where he arrived at Warwick in May. Under an excellent ride by Tom Buckley, The Boola Bee powered home to beat Definitely Vinnie by nine-lengths and Hawke’s charge repeated that trick four days later at Sedgefield, defeating Katalytic under a feather weight.
On his return to action, The Boola Bee and Katalytic clashed again. Hawke’s six-year-old was held up out the back as Katalytic set the pace over two-and-a-half miles, but found himself a little too far back at a crucial stage and The Boola Bee could only stay on to finish a fairly distant second.
There’s no doubting he will come on from that run and stepping back up a three miles should suit. The Boola Bee has secured all his best results on good ground and Tom Buckley will be delighted to get the chance to capture a third victory with this likable chaser.
