BRIAN HEALY’S NAP OF THE DAY
(12.45) The useful GIVING BACK (11/2, William Hill) returns to the flat having had a recent spin over hurdles at Fontwell, but Alan King’s charge had been in good heart in this sphere previously where she scored back-to-back successes at Salsibury and Chepstow respectively in September.
The Midnight Legend mare wasn’t disgraced over course and distance when thwarted in her hat-trick attempt under a penalty, finishing six lengths fourth to Casa Comigo, and she is 1lb lower in the weights for this return to the level.
Given she is proven over course and distance, and she was in decent heart when last seen on the level then she looks worth siding with here to get back on the scoresheet.
(1.55) MICHELE STROGOFF (10/3, Coral) has made the frame in four of his last five outings, and the Aqlaam gelding can get some reward for his recent consistency with a win here.
Michael Appleby’s charge was beaten only around three lengths latest at Wolverhampton earlier in the month behind Storm Ahead, and that form has since been franked by a subsequent winner coming out of the race who finished behind him that day.
He can race here from the same handicap mark as that latest run, and he has twice finished runner-up over this longer trip so could appreciate the return to a stiffer test where he can go close in what looks a winnable race.
12.10 – Mohareb
12.45 – Giving Back
1.20 – Birkenhead
1.55 – Michele Strogoff
2.25 – Pike Corner Cross
3.00 – Sefton Warrior
3.30 – Vincenzo Coccotti
(2.30) EXCEEDED BRIEF (3/1, Paddy Power) had shaped with some promise over hurdles last term, denied only by a neck here last November before being tested behind Klassical Dream at Leopardstown during the Christmas Festival.
He finished fifth on that occasion, but he hasn’t been seen out since although the form has worked out really well and he could prove a tough nut to crack if fully wound up ahead of his reappearance.
Henry de Bromhead has his yard in decent fettle, and on last season’s form he looks to hold solid claims of posting a big run where he could get off the mark.
12.15 – Milan Native
12.50 – Hilltop Supreme
1.25 – French Dynamite
2.00 – Elfile
2.30 – Exceeded Brief
3.05 – Blackyellowred
3.35 – Bitofalright
FFOS LAS TIPS
(1.35) GOLDEN WHISKY (Evens, Bet365) scored his only career success to date at this venue when going in over hurdles here back in January, and Evan Williams’ charge can make it 2-2 at the Welsh venue with a breakthrough success over fences.
The Flemensfirth gelding possibly needed his return and chase debut when pulled up at Uttoxeter in October, but he stepped up on that effort to finish a good third to the progressive Simply The Betts at Chepstow latest although was no match for the winner having crossed the line around six lengths adrift.
That winner has gone in again to give the form a boost, and stepping back up in distance ought not to present an issue if he turns out here in the same form and racing from the same mark.
(2.40) TALKINGPICTURESTV (7/2, 888Sport) has hit the crossbar in each of her last two outings, but Henry Oliver’s charge could be worth chancing to get back to winning ways here.
The Flying Legend mare scored her only career success to date at Stratford in June when beating My Lady Grey by a head where she was 1lb of the handicap, and although she has failed to back up that win in her four subsequent starts she hasn’t been beaten far in either of her last two which includes at Plumpton latest behind Two Sams.
She was only beaten two lengths in that outing, finishing ahead of a subsequent winner, and she is only 1lb higher in the weights for this latest outing so may yet have some scope for better.
12.25 – Stick With Bill
1.00 – Deja Vue
1.35 – Golden Whisky
2.05 – Whoshotwho
2.40 – Talkingpicturestv
3.10 – Don’t Be Robin
3.40 – Gustavian
(1.45) DEPUTY JONES (8/1, Paddy Power) might have needed her recent run over a shorter trip at Plumpton earlier in the month, and Neil Mulholland’s mare can improve on that effort to do better here having finished a long way adrift of the winner and beating only one rival home in that race.
The Milan mare had shaped with some promise previously to rack up a trio of third-place finishes over hurdles having been a winner between the flags for her previous handler in Ireland, and with that recent reappearance effort under her belt now then she could be worth chancing to do better.
The marked step up in distance should suit, and she takes an ease in grade here having been dropped 3lbs in the weights so a better performance this time around wouldn’t come as a surprise.
(2.15) MANOFTHEMOUNTAIN (11/2, William Hill) is 2-2 since joining forces with Emma Lavelle’s yard, and the Mahler gelding can land his hat-trick.
He showed some ability in three starts for Jamie Snowden previously, but he has improved for the switch to the larger obstacles and ran out a relatively straightforward winner latest at Southwell with a three lengths’ defeat of Trumps Benefit at the beginning of October.
He likely has better to come given the relatively easy manner of that success, and the booking of Nico de Boinville catches the eye. This is more competitive taking on a stronger and larger field than he has faced to date, while the handicapper has hit him with a 6lbs rise in the weights which will demand more from him; but he could be ahead of the assessor and still unexposed as a chaser he can continue his progress.
12.35 – Eritage
1.10 – Dogon
1.45 – Deputy Jones
2.15 – Manofthemountain
2.50 – Bang On
3.20 – Write It Down
3.50 – Clearly Capable
(4.30) LAST DATE (14/1, William Hill) wasn’t seen to best effect last time out at Kempton where he could only finish fourth, but Ivan Furtado’s charge had won the time before over this course and distance and may be worth chancing to bounce back returned to this venue.
The Music Master gelding ran out a half-length victor over Two Hearts in that success, getting up late, and the form of his latest run was boosted when the runner-up won next time out.
He could still have scope to do better from this mark, and a return to the scene of his sole victory to date could see him do better with the likelihood of a decent pace to chase after here.
(5.30) MERHOOB (6/1, Ladbrokes) has been contesting in better races than he finds himself here, although he was disappointing when last sighted here last week where he beat only one home behind Lady Dancealot over course and distance.
John Ryan’s charge had finished a decent third of five runners the time before at Musselburgh, and the return to this longer trip could help him to bounce back in a race where he looks weighted to run well in a relatively ordinary contest for the grade.
He wasn’t seen to best effect last time, but he encountered plenty of trouble in running and had no sort of a run before being eased in the last furlong when any chance had gone, and it may be worth forgiving him that effort.

5.00 – Arriviste
5.30 – Merhoob
