THURSDAY CLONMEL RACING TIPS – IRISH RACING BEST BETS 13 MAY
4:05 Clonmel – Ancient East Mares Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m½f
SHEER LISS has shaped with promise since switching to Rules from the point-to-point sphere, winning a Down Royal bumper on just her second start and then finishing runner-up in a Listed bumper before looking in need of the experience over hurdles at Ballinrobe.
Denise Foster’s charge subsequently returned from six months off the track at Tramore last month, finding only one too good in maiden company and a repeat of that effort might be good enough here with Jordan Gainford claiming a handy 7lbs.
She remains relatively unexposed over timber and likely to have further progress to come she can get off the mark here.
5:10 Clonmel – Team Powerstown Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 2m½f
DAZZLING DARREN has so far failed to set the heather alight in four starts over timber in maiden company, but now the Dragon Pulse gelding tries handicapping Gavin Cromwell’s charge can improve.
His last hurdles start saw him beat only one home at Limerick back in December and following a break he returned to action on the flat where he raced three times without success on the all-weather although he did strike back on turf on the level when successful at Sligo earlier in the month.
The handicapper has handed him a potentially workable mark on his debut in this sphere and if he can carry the good work he showed on the flat last time out back over hurdles then he could get off the mark.
5:45 Clonmel – Clonacody (C & G) Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4f
FISSA has shaped with enough promise to suggest he can pick up a race and it might be worth chancing the Saddler Maker gelding to open his account here.
Henry De Bromhead’s charge finished third on his hurdles debut at Punchestown back in October, but he fell early at Limerick next time and has contested bumpers the last twice where he landed a bronze medal at Down Royal.
He’s been given a break since his last run back at Down Royal where he might have found heavy ground against him when finishing fifth; but on a less testing surface here back over hurdles and reverting to a longer trip he might be able to bounce back with an improved effort.
7:30 Clonmel – Suir Blueway Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-109) 2m4f
ISLAND MAHEE has generally been a consistent performer and the Doyen mare could be worth siding with here to get back on the winning trail.
Stuart Crawford’s charge reeled off a trio of in-the-frame efforts prior to disappointing at Navan in December where he might have been amiss; but back from three months off he got off the mark with a ready defeat of Hawthorn Cottage at Musselburgh in March.
She ran out a six lengths’ winner on that occasion and although beaten in her follow-up bid he ran well to finish just two lengths’ third to Master Artist, splitting a pair of subsequent winners.
This return to a longer trip could suit and only raised 2lbs in the weights for that latest run he can make his presence felt in an open race.
