HUNTINGDON TIPS

(1.31 Huntingdon)

THOMAS SHELBY (7/2, Paddy Power) failed to land a blow over hurdles for Alan King and having since spent some time in the point-to-point ranks he has returned in much better fettle over fences for current handler Caroline Bailey.

The Witness Box gelding might have needed his return over fences at Southwell in October; but he built on that effort to ready see off Stonebrigg Legend over this course and distance in December where a repeat of that effort might be enough to see him follow up.

He stayed on well to register a near-two lengths’ defeat of the runner-up with the pair pulling almost ten lengths clear. The form looks decent with the runner-up running well in defeat since, while the fifth home has won since.

He is still unexposed as a chaser and a 7lbs rise in the weights might underestimate his potential for improvement so he looks worth siding with here to follow up that latest victory.

(3.05 Huntingdon)

The unbeaten TEA CLIPPER (5/2, Ladbrokes) can extend his winning sequence to four wins and the Stowaway gelding goes from strength to strength over hurdles.

Tom Lacey’s charge was a winner between the flags prior to joining this yard where he is 3-3 over timber, latterly running out a ready winner over this course back in December. He registered a neck defeat of Magic Dancer last time although he was arguably value for more than the official winning distance.

Having made a mess of the final obstacle and giving up ground, he ran on well again to prevail in a tight finish and a 3lbs rise for that win could prove lenient with the step up in trip here likely to be in his favour. He can defy his new mark to maintain his unbeaten record.

1.00 – Swilly Sunset
1.31 – Thomas Shelby
2.01 – Lots Of Luck
2.31 – Shishkin
3.05 – Tea Clipper
3.40 – Peter’s Portrait
4.12 – Coquelicot

CHELMSFORD TIPS

(1.40 Chelmsford)

The application of a visor for the first time and step up in trip appeared to deliver a jolt of improvement to ARABESCATO (4/1, Bet365) who improved on past form to open his account at Lingfield last month.

Nick Littmoden’s Outstrip gelding won a shade readily, scoring by just over one length from Cottonopolis and a 4lbs rise in the weights likely remains workable given he is open to further improvement over this longer trip.

That win also marked his first start on polytrack and this doesn’t look the strongest of races so every chance he can follow up here.

(2.10 Chelmsford)

CHANNEL PACKET (9/2, William Hill) has returned from a break in good fettle, twice finishing third here before getting back on the winning trail at Newcastle on his last start.

Michael Appleby’s Champs Elysees entire was resuming winning ways for the first time since scoring over course and distnace back in November 2018. He appeared to do the job a shade comfortably, racing prominently and keeping on strongly for the win over Elusive Heights.

He’s unpenalised for that success and his claiming rider can use her full allowance for this contest so every chance he can repeat the dose.

(2.40 Chelmsford)

The consistent MOHAREB (5/2, Bet365) has won three of his seven starts for Michael Appleby, posting his last success over seven furlongs at Lingfield on his penultimate start.

The Delegator gelding was only beaten a neck on his latest outing when competing under a penalty over the same course and distance; but he could bounce back to winning form here dropping back to six furlongs.

A course and distance winner he probably needs a shade more to defy a further rise in the handicap, but he’s consistent and going the right way, and it would be no surprise to see him go close here.

1.10 – Kerrera
1.40 – Arabescato
2.10 – Channel Packet
2.40 – Mohareb
3.15 – Prince Rock
3.50 – Verne Castle
4.20 – Spreadsheet

THURLES TIPS

(1.15 Thurles)

ARVICO BLEU (2/1, William Hill) went off too hard on his return from eleven months off at Fairyhouse last month, fading to finish seventh behind Charlie Stoute. However, on his form from last year Henry de Bromhead’s charge sets a good standard and he can do better here.

Although he has yet to score over hurdles, he has finished runner-up behind the likes of Le Richebourg, Hardline and Duca De Thaix. He would have gone close to winning this race twelve months ago on his final run last term only to fall at the last fence.

He crossed the line almost 50 lengths behind Charlie Stout on his return; that form looks decent with the winner since running well in a valuable handicap at the Dublin Racing Festival and he should strip fitter for the return so may well prove a different proposition now.

(2.15 Thurles)

THE BROGHIE MAN (15/8, Bet365) took a significant forward step over hurdles at Punchestown last month to finish runner-up behind Le Musigny where he was beaten only a half-length. Padraig Roche’s charge could open his account now if building again on that recent effort.

The Cityscape gelding had shown only moderate form in three previous outings over timber, but he did face a couple of stiff tasks on the face of things and his latest run was much better. Suited by the strong pace he finished strongly and just failed to get to the winner.

That form looks fair with the third, fifth and sixth all running well since and he can open his account now with a repeat of that effort where the race might be run to suit again.

1.15 – Arvico Bleu
1.45 – Barna Venture
2.15 – The Broghie Man
2.45 – The Bosses Oscar
3.20 – Sempo
3.55 – Capture The Action
4.25 – Run For Oscar

DONCASTER TIPS

(1.53 Doncaster)

ZOFFEE (5/4, Paddy Power) has shaped with promise on both hurdles starts to date, finding only one too strong on each occasion; but Philip Hobbs’ charge can get off the mark at the third attempt with victory here.

A winner on the flat for Tom Dascombe, he was only beaten one length behind Lord Lamington on his hurdles debut before chasing home Blacko at Taunton latest where he crossed the line just over two lengths’ adrift.

That form looks decent with the winner since going in again, while the third and fourth have both ran subsequent silver medal finishes. This looks a decent opportunity for him to open his win account and a repeat of that latest outing might be good enough to see him home in front here.

(2.23 Doncaster)

WELL SMITTEN (2/1, Bet365) struck over this course in December and the Gold Well gelding can follow up here.

Sam Drake’s charge was fair over fences for Amy Murphy previously, scoring a win at Huntingdon and posting some decent efforts in defeat including behind useful sorts Cap Du Nord and Goodthyneaway; but he ended his time with that yard out of sorts back over hurdles.

Given a break and having moved yards, he looked a ready winner when last seen here in December where he was dropped markedly in trip and ran out a three lengths’ victor over Fiddlers Bow.

He’s been hit with a 6lbs rise in the weights for that run, but he remains well treated on his old form. As such, he may be able to defy his revised mark with the return to slightly further unlikely to present an issue.

1.23 – Minella Examiner
1.53 – Zoffee
2.23 – Well Smitten
2.55 – Board Of Trade
3.30 – Glory And Fortune
4.04 – Getaway Mag
4.40 – Out On The Tear

NEWCASTLE TIPS

(6.00 Newcastle)

BARBELO (9/2, William Hill) looks a steadily progressive sort who could have more to offer and Richard Spencer’s charge is chanced to get off the mark.

The Dark Angel filly looked in need of the experience when finishing last of seven runners at Wolverhampton in October; but he showed the benefit of that run to finish a close third next time over the same course and distance.

She bagged another bronze medal latest at Southwell last month despite not looking altogether keen on the deeper fibresand surface over the minimum trip. But a return to tapeta and back at six furlongs could see her in better light with the potential for further improvement to come.

(6.30 Newcastle)

LOUIS TREIZE (5/2, Bet365) was a course winner over six furlongs here on just his second career start, beating Swiss Connection, and he was subsequently highly tried on turf although he remains lightly raced.

Richard Spencer’s charge has finished third on each of his last two starts split by six months inbetween; he latterly finished just over one length behind Hart Stopper back here last month.

That was over six furlongs but he drops back to the minimum distance here which shouldn’t invconvenience the Slade Power gelding whose previous Haydock bronze medal cane at this trip behind Spirit Power.

If he can build on that recent return to action then there’s every chance he can get back on the scoresheet here from the same handicap mark.

5.30 – Union
6.00 – Barbelo
6.30 – Louis Treize
