THURSDAY IRISH RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR BELLEWSTOWN & CLONMEL
1:40 Clonmel – Clonmel Mares Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4f
PRETTY LITTLE LIAR has hit the crossbar the last twice and David Dunne’s charge can get back to winning ways here.
The Excellent Art mare scored her only hurdles success to date at Stratford back in June 2019 and her form since has been largely hit or miss although she has managed to win twice since on the flat, the latest of which came at Bellewstown in July.
Recent efforts have seen her finish runner-up at Wexford and Navan latterly where she was beaten only a neck by Profound and racing from only 2lbs higher here she can make her presence felt again back up in trip.
3:25 Clonmel – Kilmore Maiden Hurdle (5yo+) 2m½f
WILD SHOT would have gone close to a first win at Downpatrick earlier in the month had he not sprawled badly on landing over the last and losing all momentum and John McConnell’s charge can gain compensation here.
The So You Think gelding was in with every chance when suffering that mishap, but while he lost any chance of a win he did well to recover for third and finished clear of the rest of the field.
That was his second bronze medal having filled the same spot the time before at Kilbeggan and he should make his presence felt here if none the worse for that incident last time.
4:15 Bellewstown – Bluegrass Horse Feeds Race (3yo+) 1m4f
PHOENIX COWBOY wasn’t seen to best effect in a big field contest at Leopardstown last time out, meeting with trouble in running but it could be worth sticking with Ger Lyons’ runner here back in a smaller field.
The Gleneagles gelding had won two of his previous three starts at Ballinrobe and Gowran Park either side of also finishing runner-up by a neck at the first-named venue and the second of those wins saw him run out a comfortable winner over Palace Rock.
He got no sort of run at Leopardstown last time and wasn’t harshly treated once his chance had gone so that effort can be forgiven and there’d be no surprise to see him bounce back to form here where he can resume winning ways.
4:50 Bellewstown – Byrne Marquees Handicap (Div I) (3yo+ 45-65) 1m4f
APRIL’S JOY’s last foray on the flat saw her win at Tramore in August and back in this sphere Gavin Cromwell’s charge can follow up.
The Ask mare had won over hurdles at Downpatrick in June and was last seen back in that sphere at this venue where she disappointed behind Act Of God; but she is a former winner at this track on the flat, scoring last July from this mark and she can get competitive again on her return to the level.
Softer ground is no problem for her so any rain won’t be an inconvenience and she could yet have more to offer on the flat after just ten starts in this sphere. This is a very tricky contest to unravel but she’s capable of playing her part in the finish and there’d be no surprise in seeing her go well.
