Brian Healy looks over the week seven Dubai World Cup Carnival racecard and gives his Meydan Thursday racing tips for another cracking fixture at the Emirates venue.

It is week seven of the Dubai World Cup carnival and the richest raceday in the world is only a few weeks away from taking place.

There has already been plenty of thrills and excitement to be had in the previous few weeks, and week seven promises even more with a six-race card headed by the Group Two Balanchine Sponsored by Gulf News as the day’s feature race.

MEYDAN THURSDAY RACING TIPS AT A GLANCE

3:05 – FIRST VIEW (5/2, Ladbrokes)
3:40 – BOCHART (10/3, Coral)
4:15 – SURROUNDING (6/1, Unibet)
4:50 – WAADY (3/1, Bet365)
5:25 – MUNTAZAH (11/4, Unibet)
6:00 – DUBAI FUTURE (8/1, Paddy Power)

3:05 – Meydan Trophy Sponsored By getthat (Conditions) (Turf) (3yo) 1m1½f

Dual-Kempton winner FIRST VIEW (5/2, Ladbrokes) is taken to bounce back to winning ways having perhaps failed to handle a dirt surface the last twice.

The Exceed and Excel colt showed a decent level of ability in two all-weather victories last winter, latterly beating First Receiver by a half-length. He’s since failed to fire in two outings on the dirt track here with his latest outing seeing him trail home a well-beaten eighth behind Laser Show.

A switch to turf however allied with the application of a visor might see him in a better light now where he can post an improved effort; it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him go close here under Christophe Soumillon.

3:40 – Tabloid (Handicap) (Dirt) (3yo+ 90-108) 6f

BOCHART (10/3, Coral) has a decent record at this venue and he showed a drop to six furlongs to be no problem when building on a solid third over the trip in a Listed contest two starts ago to get back on the winning trail.

Sateesh Seemar’s Dubawi gelding ran out a five lengths’ victor latest over Desert Doctor who reopposes here. A significiant swing at the weights in the latter’s favour will make life tougher for the selection; but he is a consistent sort who rarely runs a bad race at this venue and he has the plum inside draw to work from.

The manner in which he won last time out suggests he could still have some scope for better, and he could prove hard to peg back racing on the inner rail.

4:15 – Balanchine Sponsored By Gulf News (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m1f

SURROUNDING (6/1, Unibet) was given too much to do last time when finishing a never-nearer fourth behind Salute The Soldier. However, Mick Halford’s charge could be worth giving another chance and the Lilbourne Lad mare can do better.

A winner of three of her last four starts in Ireland in the last half of 2019 which included a Group Three success at Fairlyhouse, she hasn’t been seen at her best in her two runs here to date.

She beat only one home on her first outing here in the Cape Verdi, but she stepped up on that effort latest and could find another jolt of improvement back at this level with the extra furlong a possible help.

4:50 – Reach (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-105) 5f

WAADY (3/1, Bet365) struck a win here last November and the Approve gelding has made the frame in all three subsequent outings at Listed and Group Three level.

Doug Watson’s charge latterly was beaten two lengths behind Equilateral over course and distance last month in the Listed Dubai Dash where the third horse home in that contest has since boosted the form with a win next time out.

That form looks solid and entitles the Approve gelding to close here if he can post a repeat of that effort where he has a decent draw to work from out of the number four box.

Waady can get back on the winning trail at Meydan on Thursday.

5:25 – Firebreak Stakes Sponsored By gn.com (Group 3) (Dirt) (3yo+) 1m

MUNTAZAH (11/4, Unibet) probably needed the run on his reappearance in R1 of the Maktoum Challenge over course and distance last month; but the Dubawi gelding can build on the effort to get back on the winning trail.

Doug Watson’s charge finished third or better in all five course and distance starts last campaign which included back-to-back wins at Group Three level and he took this prize twelve months ago with a defeat of Secret Ambition.

A good third in the Godolphin Mile on his final outing last campaign, he should come on for his return fourth behind Kimbear here last month and he can make his presence felt back at this level where he can mount a successful title defence.

6:00 – Friday (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-108) 1m4f

Godolphin saddles half of the field for the closing handicap and it could be worth keeping DUBAI FUTURE (8/1, Paddy Power) onside as he bids for another success.

Saeed bin Suroor’s charge has won his last three starts which includes a course and distance win latest where he overcame a wide draw to score a shade readily over the reopposing Massif Central.

That form has taken a couple of knocks since and this is a tougher test of his credentials. However, he’s only been raised 2lbs for that success and he gave the impression last time that there was more in the locker.

He has a wide draw again to overcome here, but he’s one who is going the right way and he may be worth chancing to find another jolt of improvement in this competitive closer to strike another win.
