THURSDAY THURLES TIPS – IRISH RACING BEST BETS OVER THE STICKS
1:15 Thurles – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Beginners Chase (4yo+) 2m4½f
BRAVE WAY was a useful sort over hurdles last term, winning at Kilbeggan before tackling a couple of Graded races which included a Grade One at Fairyhouse in April and now tackling fences the Jeremy mare can get back to winning ways.
Henry De Bromhead’s charge has had a pipe-opener already this term having had a spin over hurdles at Listowel last month, finishing fourth; but he’s a past winner between the flags and that experience could be put to good use here as he heads over the larger obstacles.
If she can translate her very useful hurdles form to this discipline then she could be hard to beat here and likely to be sharper with that recent hurdles spin under her belt then she ought to be firmly in the mix.
1:45 Thurles – www.thurlesraces.ie Handicap Chase (4yo+ 0-102) 2m2f
CLODY VALLEY has hit the crossbar the last twice and the Arakan gelding can get off the mark here at the 18th attempt.
Elizabeth Doyle’s charge is still unexposed as a chaser, stepping up on his hurdles form to make the frame in his last three starts where he’s not been beaten by far in runner-up efforts at Downpatrick and Killarney latest behidn Dontdooddson.
He might have won last time but for a tardy leap at the last and a subsequent 3lbs rise looks workable so with the potential for better still over the larger obstacles he could go well and can open his account here.
3:30 Thurles – He’llberemembered Hurdle (5yo+) 2m7f
STRATUM can get back to winning ways reverting to hurdling and the classy dual-purpose performer could prove tough to beat if at his best.
The Queen Alexandra Stakes winner at Royal Ascot over the summer ran well for seventh back over hurdles in a valuable contest at the Galway Festival before a couple of lesser runs back on the flat albeit in Group One and Group Two company.
His latest run saw him beat only one home behind Trueshan in the Prix du Cadran, but returing to timber he should be well able to make his presence felt off this mark while the booking of J B Foley is a plus with the young rider excellent value for his 5lbs claim which puts the Dansili gelding on a very winnable mark.
4:05 Thurles – Premier County Mares Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 2m7f
FARRAWAY BAY is progressing well over hurdles, winning on her handicap debut at Galway last month with a defeat of Well Joey and almost following up when last seen at Listowel, finding only one too good.
Mark Molloy’s charge gave way over the last having briefly led between the last two and while no match for the winner he kept on well without threatening but readily held the third and this longer trip could see him improve again.
The third from that last run won next time out to give the form a boost and he can overcome a 3lbs rise in the weights here to go resume winning ways.
