THURSDAY UK RACING TIPS – BEST BETS AT HAMILTON, FFOS LAS, UTTOXETER, CHELMSFORD & THIRSK
1:35 Hamilton – hamilton-park.co.uk Novice Stakes (Div I) Cl5 (3yo+) 6f
COOPERATION has shown some fair form in defeat and Richard Fahey’s charge has found only one too good in three of his last four starts including twice on turf.
The Mehmas gelding also posted a very good fifth in a much stronger race at York behind Cairn Island last August and he’s gained sucessive silver medals this term with the latest coming at Southwell.
However it is his previous runner-up effort which captures the eye as he was only beaten two lengths by Spycatcher who has gone on to place twice in Pattern company and there could be more to come from him having been gelded since that effort so he may well get off the mark now.
2:00 Ffos Las – Casumo Proud To Support British Horse Racing Handicap Chase Cl3 (5yo+ 0-130) 3m
LANDSMAN took a step back in the right direction when returned to chasing for his last outing at Ludlow last month where Tim Vaugn’s charge found only Back On The Lash too good by a head.
The Canford Cliffs gelding was making his return from four months off on that occasion which was also just his third over fences and he maintained his record of being placed in all starts over the larger obstacles with that performance where he travelled well into the contest but perhaps didn’t find as much as expected.
That winner has gone in again since however and he could do better here if building on that run. He’s still unexposed as a chaser so a 2lbs rise looks workable and he can go well here.
2:45 Hamilton – Hampton By Hilton Hamilton Park Clyde Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-100) 6f
DANZAN has hit the crossbar in three of his last four starts and the Lawman gelding can end a lengthy losing streak by going one better here.
Tim Easterby’s charge found only the very useful Mr Lupton too strong by one length at York latest, snatching the silver medal late on although he was unable to get to the winner. He was racing from 1lb out of the weights also so it was a very creditable run and the third and fifth have both run good races since.
The six-year old hasn’t won since scoring on the all-weather back in February 2018 when rated 105 for Andrew Balding and while not at that level now he has run a number of very creditable races in defeat.
He deserves to pick up a decent pot at some stage before too much longer and he’s only 1lb higher here than at York although Ella McCain can claim 5lbs so he ought to give a very good account and could get back on the scoresheet.
3:30 Uttoxeter – Watch Free Race Replays On attheraces.com Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m4f
ERNESTO is a relatively lightly raced sort over hurdles since joining Ian Williams from Germany, getting off the mark at Exeter latest when wearing a tongue-tie for the first time where he beat Castel Gandolfo by a neck.
He had to dig deep that day to hold off the runner-up who has since gone one better but the longer trip here could help and he can compete here from the same mark before joing up 1lb in future.
He had been in decent form prior to that success and there could be more to come from him now he’s got his head in front and still quite unexposed he could follow up if the headgear has the same effect again.
5:45 Thirsk – Join Racing TV Now Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-75) 6f
HIGHJACKED has returned this term in good heart, winning two of this three outings this term over this course and distance and the Dick Turpin gelding can strike again.
James Davies’ charge had won at Redcar last summer and he held his form well thereafter to make the frame in five successive runs prior to a break. Following almost six months off he made a winning reappearance over course and distance top beat Confrontational by just over one length and he subsequently bounced back from a runner-up effort here to get back on the scoresheet latest.
On that latest occasion he beat Leo Davinci cosily despite wandering under pressure on the soft ground and a return to a quicker surface could be in his favour. That form took a boost when the fourth won next time and a 5lbs rise for that success may underestimate him given the improvement he’s found this year.
It would be no surprise to see him involved again here and he can collect another success over a course and distance that is suiting him well.
6:00 Chelmsford – Ministry Of Sound Classical 21st August Handicap Cl3 (4yo+ 0-90) 6f
Robyn Brisland has found the key to POWER OVER ME who has been beaten just once in six starts for this yard following his switch from Ireland and the Ivawood gelding could go close again.
A winner over this course and distance back in January he added further wins to his resume at Lingfield to bring up the hat-trick; he then bounced back from a lesser effort back there where he may have been feeling the effects of a busy spell to reel off back-to-back wins at Wolverhampton in March.
He’s been given a breather since his latest outing which saw him beat Gabrial The Devil by two lengths – fourth has won since – and while a 6lbs rise in the weights applies a bit more pressure he could continue his race-by-race progress to make his presence felt again and he can strike another win.
6:15 Thirsk – Watch On Racing TV Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-70) 1m
REDESDALE REBEL might be worth chancing here to follow up his latest success over this course last month and Susan Corbett’s charge can go well again.
The Mayson gelding had previously only won on the tapeta at Newcastle, the latest of those coming back in September last year; but he stepped up on past efforts following six months off to beat Highjacked over course and distance and that one could boost the form earlier on the card.
The selection struck by one length that day, always racing prominently and despite being carried left he won a shade cosily in the end and a 6lbs rise in the weights could be workable given the runner-up and fourth have both won since.
All of his three wins have come over shorter than this, but he’s proven the longer trip to hold no fears having run well over further in the past and he ought to give a good account here where he can follow up that latest win.
6:30 Chelmsford – chelmsfordcityracecourse.com Handicap Cl3 (3yo 0-95) 1m
GREAT KING has shown some progressive form following his juvenile campaign, winning on his reappearance from seven months off and wind surgery to strike at Newcastle in April and Roger Varian’s charge then shaped well on his first handicap outing at Wolverhampton when finishing fourth behind Summa Petto.
The Shamardal colt showed polytrack to be no problem on debut last term and he caught the eye latest where he made good headway from the rear but was denied a clear run at a crucial stage. He finished off well once clear but it was too late to influence the result although there’s likely better to come from him on that performance and he should make his presence felt.
He’s only been pushed up 1lb for that latest run which shouldn’t inconvenience and he should post a big effort as he bids to get back on track.
