Thursday’s all-weather tips – Three tips at Southwell and Chelmsford
Thursday’s All-Weather Tips
Jack Haylett highlights three all-weather tips for today at Southwell and Chelmsford on Thursday 30th January.
Jack’s regular all-weather tips feature for Racing Tips often provides plenty of winners, and he’s confident his three selections for today will deliver the goods again. Check them out below. Best odds available with William Hill and Unibet…
Mick Appleby appears to have gotten Forseti back to near his best form, and from a mark of 74 there is certainly reason to think he can win again now. He chases a third straight success here and appears to be somewhat of a course specialist. This looks probably a little tougher than the competition he has faced of late, but on back form he still looks well treated.
Rock Icon looks the main danger amongst the field, he trounced a field at Wolverhampton when last seen, but I think he was likely flatter by that and with concerns in regards the suitability of this surface then he can be opposed. At the prices then for me Forseti is the clear standout selection and I fully expect him to go close.
There is no doubt that Verne Castle is very well treated based on his best form, having won off as high as 91 he now races from 83. He showed signs of returning to form when last seen though, that day beaten just 2 lengths into third in a class 2. I think it was pretty generous of the handicapper to drop him 2lbs for that run, and down in the weights he also gets to run down in grade which will help.
This class 4 contest doesn’t look strong, particularly if willing to look past favourite Chitra. Admittedly she is a progressive filly, but she is too short having only won weak races of late. At 3/1 then it easy to make a fair case for backing Verne Castle, but if also considering the selections fondness for running at this track then he becomes a very strong selection. He thrives on his racing here, and has 5 wins over course and distance. With the strong booking of PJ McDonald then I think he rates as the all-weather tips of the day.
The 7:00 is a very modest looking handicap that will not take much winning at all. For me the standout amongst the field is Superseded, who posted his best effort for some time when last seen. He is weighted to reverse form with the winner that day, Cuban Spirit, and should also benefit from a better passage here as he was particularly poorly drawn that day.
A winner off 66 last June then he runs from a very appealing mark of 55. I would expect progression from his last run and if finding even a few pounds then he should take the beating here. I’m very happy to oppose the favourite who runs for a yard that has most of it’s horses running poorly at present, and it may prove that the in form Hollie Doyle aboard Spenny’s Lane my selection the most to think about. At 9/2 then Superseded looks a very fair bet.
