STICK WITH BILL (NAP) was my NAP of the day when he made his hurdling debut, having caught the eye on two bumpers last term. Approaching the turn for home, I’d already torn up my betting slip. Harry Whittington’s charge hadn’t been very slick over his hurdles and was on and off the bridle throughout.

Yet, Gavin Sheehan’s mount kept finding and finding under pressure and eventually did extremely well just to finish second behind Potters Venture. Fado Des Brosses looks the clear and present danger, but if Stick With Bill has come on as expected between runs, then I think he’ll be very hard to beat on ground conditions which should suit.

When I was looking at this race before the odds were released, I was expecting DOGON (NB) to open at around 7/4, maybe even 6/4. So, to see Paul Nicholls charge lurking around 5/2 in the early betting is a chance I don’t want to pass up.

Dogon is a second-season novice, having been pulled-up twice at Cheltenham, either side of a strong second-place finish at Wincanton. Nicholls’ will have been disappointed with the effort this French recruit put in on his reappearance behind The Wolf, but dropping back in trip should ensure he’s much more competitive and the Champion Trainer boasts an impeccable record with his runners here at Taunton. Dogon should be good enough to get off the mark.
