This looks a fairly weak Class Four, with Sheena West’s decision to throw a juvenile in with his elders the only real talking point. GLOBAL TOUR (NAP) leads the way in the betting, having comfortably won an identical race over course-and-distance earlier this month and I doubt the favourite will need to improve on that winning performance to claim yet another victory this afternoon.
Since linking up with Fergal O’Brien in May, Global Tour has won five of his eight appearance, two of those coming over the two mile strip here at Ludlow. Two of those three defeats came when stepped up beyond two miles, so this is clearly the six-year-old’s favourite trip and jockey Max Kendrick, who takes three pounds off his back today, has been in the saddle for all of his runs here in England.
Global Tour was upped eight pounds after winning two weeks ago and the prospect of early-morning rain is a little bit of a worry. I’m hoping the downpour doesn’t get into the surface, as he’ll probably be pulled out if the word soft appears in the description. If the ground is deemed good enough for Global Tour to run, however, I see no reason why he can’t carry a career-high mark to victory over some fairly average opposition.
