SATURDAY IRISH RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR BALLINROBE & LEOPARDSTOWN
1:35 Ballinrobe – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle (5yo+) 2m6f
DARREN’S HOPE has been contesting at a fair level over hurdles since winning on her debut in this sphere at Punchestown back in January although she was subsequently disqualified and Robert Murphy’s charge can build on an encouraging return to action to finally get on the scoresheet.
Since that success the Oscar mare has finished third in a Grade Three contest at Limerick and she returned from a six months break following that solid run to find only one too good at Listowel last month where she was beaten two lengths by Telmesomethinggirl.
That form perhaps isnt’ the strongest but she’ll surely be sharper for the outing and this return to a longer trip will stand her in good stead back in maiden company so she is taken to go one better with that run under her belt.
2:25 Leopardstown – Knockaire Stakes (Listed Race) (3yo+) 7f
REAL FORCE could be worth chancing to find some improvement and Gerard O’Leary’s charge brings some solid form to the table.
A juvenile winner last term and thought good enough to contest a Group Two although he was a big outsider on that occasion, he has shown progress this term having finished fourth in a Group Three at Naas on his return and crossing the line in second behind Keats at Killarney.
The Lethal Force gelding got back on track with a win at Tipperary in August, taking advantage of the drop in grade to beat Aztec Parade and he returned from a short break to find ony one too good in a French Listed contest latest behind Alson.
The form of his Tipperary win however is working out well with the runner-up won at Listed level next time, while the third has reeled off a hat-trick of wins in some decent handicaps and he could continue his progression with these underfoot conditions no problem.
He probably does need to improve a bit but that is certainly possible and he can make his presence felt here.
3:35 Leopardstown – Leopardstown Members Club Maiden (3yo+) 1m2f
LORD PARK is yet to strike in eight runs but the Tamayuz colt has shown enough to suggest he’s up to winning races and has proven a largely consistent performer with a number of efforts in the frame since being stepped up to this distance.
Mick Halford’s charge was last seen finishing third in similar ground at Tipperary earlier in the month, beaten two lengths by Maker Of Kings who did the form little harm on Friday; he was only a half-length behind a useful yardstick in Teed Up and a repeat of that run ought to put him in the mix here.
Placed twice under this rider who can utilise his 7lbs claim to ease the colt’s burden he ought to give a good account in ideal ground and no surprise if he were to go close as he attempts to shed his maiden tag.
4:25 Ballinrobe – Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase (4yo+) 2m1f
WEIHNACHTS faced some stiff tasks over hurdles but showed ability despite failing to win and Philip Rothwell’s charge has looked at least as good in a handful of chase starts so might be capable of shedding her maiden tag here with a win.
The Beat Hollow gelding has been taken out of a couple of recent assignments on account of the ground, but these softer conditions will be more to her liking and she was last seen finishing runner-up on her seasonal debut at Galway in September where only Flirting Lesa proved too strong.
She was well beaten that day, crossing the line some 14 lengths adrift; but there’s every chance that she’ll be sharper for the run this time around and she remains with scope to do better still in this sphere and in handicaps.
Simon Torrens’ claim in this conditional riders’ event is noteworthy and likely to build on that return to action he ought to go well with conditions underfoot ideal and he could yet improve as a chaser.
4:45 Leopardstown – Retro Drive In Movies At Leopardstown October Handicap (Premier Handicap) (3yo+) 1m4f
Ger Lyons has his string in decent fettle and lightly-raced AVARICE can take this valuable handicap having won a shade cosily when last seen at Fairyhouse at the beginning of the month following a couple of months off the track.
The Zoffany gelding built on his debut in June to reel off a hat-trick of runner-up efforts prior to getting off the mark latest with a half-length defeat of Tashi latest where a first-time hood might have helped produce some improvement.
He shaped as if he might appreciate more of a test of stamina on that occasion so it is little surprise he steps up again in trip which may yield further progress and he can go close with these conditions no problem under his very good 7lbs claimer.
Likely to have more to offer he can progress again to keep up his trainer’s good spell of form and no surprise to see him going close.
