Sunday horse racing tips and best bets

Only two meetings head to post on Sunday in the UK and we’ve picked out our best bets on each card as we give our tips for Sunday’s racing action.

With most punters’ attentions now turning full on to the upcoming Cheltenham Festival time is running out for punters to swell their Festival betting banks on the day-to-day racing and Sunday sees just two meetings going to post over the sticks and on the all-weather.

We’ve lost Bangor from the day’s racing with that meeting being abandoned; but there is still jumps racing from Warwick, while on the all-weather there is a fixture on the polytrack at Lingfield.

15 races will go to post in all across the day’s duo of fixtures and we’ve picked out our best bets and tips for Sunday’s racing action at both fixtures.

1:37 Warwick – MansionBet Faller Insurance Novices’ Hurdle (Novices’ Championship Hdl Qual’) (GBB Race) (Div I) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m

FINISTERE ran a big race on his hurdles debut at Newbury back in December where he was beaten just under three lengths by Good Ball and he had the likes of Gowel Road and Grumpy Charley – both dual-winners since – behind him with those finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Other winners have also come out of that contest and the form has a very strong look to it, while the Coastal Path gelding is entitled to improve for that first experience of hurdles.

Dan Skelton’s team continues in fine fettle and a wind operation in the wake of that promising first hurdles effort could unlock another level of progress and he’s entitled to go close here on the back of that earlier run.

1:53 Lingfield – Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Handicap Cl5 (3yo 0-70) 1m

MERRY SECRET was only beaten a half-length in his hat-trick bid over seven furlongs at this venue but Michael Appleby’s charge can quickly bounce back to winning form with this extra furlong likely to suit the son of Elzaam.

Earlier wins at this venue and Kempton in February over seven furlongs marked him as one on the upgrade and his narrow margins of victory might have had the handicapper underestimating his potential for improvement.

The form of his Kempton win has been franked by the runner-up and Mark Crehan takes over in the saddle with his 5lbs claim noteworthy and effectively returning him to the mark from which he registered that Kempton victory.

Stepping up to one mile now could prove a good move and he ought to make his presence felt once more as he bids to get back on the scoresheet.

3:12 Warwick – Follow @MansionBet This Cheltmas Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-115) 2m5f

EMBOLE has returned to top form with a vengeance this term following a lengthy absence, winning his last two starts and Dan Skelton’s charge can land his hat-trick here.

The Buck’s Boum gelding has run out a ready winner of recent outings at Wetherby and Southwell latterly where he beat Caro Des Flos by almost ten lengths. He travelled well throughout that contest before asserting just after two out for an easy win and a 7lbs penalty leaves him still very well treated on his old form.

The yard is continuing to fire in the winners in the run up to the Cheltenham Festival and remain in good form so he has to be respected turned out quickly and he ought to go close in pursuit of his three-timer.

3:28 Lingfield – Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap Cl6 (4yo+ 0-60) 6f

KNOCKOUT BLOW is a dual-winner over this course and distance and the Lethal Force gelding can get back to winning ways here.

John Long’s charge made a very pleasing return to action following more than a year off the track when beaten three lengths into fourth behind Power Over Me over this course and distance; that winner has gone in twice since from three starts to give the form a boost.

He built on that performance next time where he was beaten just over one length by Madrinho at Kempton and having been eased 1lb since and with his regular 3lbs claiming rider back in the saddle returning to this venue he could be worth chancing to strike.

3:58 Lingfield – Play 4 To Win At Betway Novice Stakes Cl5 (3yo+) 5f

The consistent PROSPECT has yet to get his head in front but the Shalaa gelding could finally make the breakthrough here and Mark Johnston’s charge is taken to do so.

Placed in five of his seven starts to date which includes finishing two lengths’ third behind Bedford Flyer over this course and distance back in November he returns from a break having seen that form taking a couple of boosts and competing here from 2lbs lower he could open his account now.

Three of his five rivals are also returning from breaks while those with fitness have to find a bit on form; but the yard can ready one on their reappearance and have been in good form of late while Ben Curtis takes the reins on the selection who can strike here.

4:15 Warwick – MansionBet Have Yourself A #MerryCheltmas Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Stayers Hurdle Series Qual’) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-135) 3m2f

Lightly-raced BALLYMILLSY can follow up his recent course and distance success and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge shouldn’t be far away despite stepping into a higher class of race.

Fourth in a hot bumper at Kempton last Feburary behind Boothill he’s since seen that race throw up multiple future winners including each of the first three home and he’s locked horns with some good sorts this term including Threeunderthrufive at Lingfield on his hurdling debut back in October.

His breakthrough win came here where he overcame some trouble in running turning in before finishing off strongly and there’s likely more still to come given he appeared to win a shade readily. A subsequent 6lbs rise could prove lenient given his potential for improvement and it would be no surprise to see him follow up here.
