The Irish horse racing action continues on Thursday with action over the sticks at Limericks where eight races go to post in the afternoon exclusively over hurdles save for the closing bumper race.

Complementing the four fixtures taking place in the UK it is another string in the bow for punters looking to take some cash off the bookies and we’ve looked over the day’s racing action to pick our horse racing tips at Limerick.

1:55 Limerick – Broadford Maiden Hurdle (4yo) 2m

BUZZ LIGHT brings some solid form to the table and Michael Mulvany’s charge is taken to get off the mark here at the fourth attempt.

The Leading Light gelding was given a stiff assignment on his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse back in February where he finished last of six behind the smart Teahupoo in a Grade Three contest and possibly felt the ground was too testing next time at Gowran Park.

However he ran much better faced with a less exacting surface when finishing twelve lengths’ third behind Coventry at Navan latest and he can build on that better showing here. That form looks solid with the winner going on to finish fifth to Cheltenham Festival winner Jeff Kidder at Fairyhouse earlier this month while the runner-up went one better next time out.

Chanced that he has more improvement to come he could go well here with Sean Flanagan a good jockey booking and it would be no surprise if he were to progress to make his presence felt.

2:30 Limerick – Kilmallock (C & G) Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m

THE CATHAL DON showed some ability in a bumper start at Thurles, but the Westerner gelding stepped up on that effort when switched to hurdles to chase home Capilano Bridge back there latest and Henry de Bromhead’s charge could take some beating here with further improvement anticipated.

He was beaten around five lengths on that occasion behind the easy winner, but he pulled almost 30 lengths ahead of the third and the form has been boosted with the winner going in again since as well as twice make the frame; while the third occupied the same position on his next start.

That winner is now rated 127 so it was a good effort to finish a respectable distance behind on his first try over timber and there’s likely better to come from him with that experience under his belt. Lack of a run is a slight worry as it has been almost five months since he was last seen, but the yard is in good form and it may be connections have waited for better ground for him.

He ought to go well here under Rachael Blackmore and every chance the Westerner gelding can get off the mark now.

3:40 Limerick – Patrickswell Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 2m

FORGETTHESURPRISE doesn’t have too many miles on the clock over hurdles but Niall Madden’s charge has managed some winning form in a bumper at Killarney and her latest effort over hurdles saw her find only one too good at Bellewstown last summer.

The Getaway mare may have been amiss when pulled up on her return to the flat at Dundalk in February and the subsequent break on the back of that run suggests all was not well; she might have needed her latest spin on the level at Gowran Park earlier this campaign and that should have her spot on for her return to hurdles here.

There could be more to come from her over timber after just four starts in this sphere where she’s made the frame twice and her 97 rating remains workable so she can make her presence felt in a fairly uninspiring contest.

4:15 Limerick – Adare Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-123) 2m5f

LOW LIE THE FIELDS was fancied for a recent assignment at Wexford but the Gold Well gelding was subsequently taken out of the race; however Henry de Bromhead’s charge can land his hat-trick here instead and he ought to go close.

He’s been progressive this term with wins at this venue and Punchestown the last twice, latterly beating Itsnotinit by the thick end of four lengths and the third from that race has won since to give some substance to that form.

The handicapper has hit him hard with a hefty 11lbs rise in the ratings but there could be more still to come from him given he appeared to win a shade readily last time out. This is however the quickest ground he’s contested on but if he acts on the less testing surface then he ought to remain competitive and there’s no reason to suspect his improvement has hit a ceiling just yet.

He returns here fresh from three months off and the slightly longer trip should prove within his range so a big run wouldn’t come as a surprise for his in-form yard and jockey.
