1.30 Southwell – HEAVENLY PROMISE (Evens, Paddy Power)

(1.40) MINELLA ENCORE (11/10, Ladbrokes) makes his return from a lengthy layoff here, and Willie Mullins’ charge can make a winning switch to hurdling.

Successful in the point-to-point sphere for Colin Bowe prior to joining this yard, the King’s Theatre gelding won his first two starts in bumpers during the 2017/18 season with successes at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown.

A creditable fourth to Blackbow in a Grade Two contest at Leopardstown when last seen, he has been absent for 20 months since; but he could prove a tough nut to crack making his reappearance over timber, and the yard’s runners rarely want for fitness so he is expected to mount a bold bid here if carrying on his smart form in bumpers into this discipline following his absence.

(2.40) CHOUNGAYA (7/2, Unibet) might have needed his first run back as well as the experience of the larger obstacles when chasing home Tornado Flyer at Naas earlier in the month, but Joseph O’Brien’s charge can build on the outing to go one better here.

The Walk In The Park gelding was beaten less than one length, and likely to strip fitter for that outing he should go close if able to translate his useful hurdles form to chasing.

He was a winner at Tipperary last term over hurdles prior to making the frame in successive Grade Three starts, and although he went the wrong way thereafter he did face some stiff tasks. He did shape well over the larger obstacles at the first attempt, and likely to improve he gets the vote to strike here.

12.40 – Instant Return
1.10 – Fils Spirituel
1.40 – Minella Encore
2.10 – Peterstown
2.40 – Choungaya
3.10 – Guided By You
3.40 – Aione

Punchestown are racing on Tuesday

(1.20) TWO HOOTS (5/1, Paddy Power) went the wrong way following his reappearance at Southwell in October when finishing down the field behind Mah Mate Bob over further at this venue, but Julie Foster’s charge could be worth chancing to bounce back returned to two miles for this latest outing.

The Tikkanen gelding has a decent record at the Durham venue, winning twice and making the frame on two other occasions from five starts here, and the testing ground last time over the longer trip might just have caught him out.

That form has been franked since, and he finished ahead of a couple of these rivals while being dropped 2lbs in the weights which leaves him well treated on his old form, and his last win came from just 2lbs higher than today’s mark.

While he might prefer the ground to be a shade less testing, he has won soft ground in the past and he could post a big effort here if able to put his recent disappointing effort behind him back down in distance.

(1.50) LATE DATE (9/4, Coral) is 3-4 at this venue, and Micky Hammond’s charge can enhance his fine record at the Durham venue with another win.

The Oscar gelding won twice last term over fences – both here – before possibly just finding the trip of the Highlands National at Perth too much where he pulled up and subsequently put away for the season.

Having returned with a solid third at Kelso in October, he got back on the winning trail with a ready success over Agamemmon over this course and distance, and a subsequent 2lbs rise in the handicap remains workable, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see another bold show from him despite this being a stronger race than the won he took latest.

12.50 – Flamboyant Joyaux
1.20 – Two Hoots
1.50 – Late Date
2.20 – Induno
2.50 – Joke Dancer
3.20 – Paricolor

(1.30) HEAVENLY PROMISE (Evens, Paddy Power) represents the in-form Fergal O’Brien team, and the Presenting mare arrives here having won her last three starts with connections quickly turning her out under a penalty where she can make it four straight wins here.

Her latest win came just four days ago when beating Misty Mai by five lengths at Ffos Las, and a repeat of that effort would make her hard to beat assuming this contest doesn’t come too soon.

A 7lbs penalty for that last success may not be enough to prevent her from following up again if none the worse for that recent last outing, and in her current vein of good form she looks worth sticking with to get the job done once more and add another win to her tally.

1.00 – Battleofthesomme
1.30 – Heavenly Promise
2.00 – Amzac Magic
2.30 – Terrierman
3.00 – All Good Things
3.30 – When You’re Ready

Fergal O'Brien can saddle a Chepstow winner on Wednesday

In-form Fergal O’Brien can saddle a Southwell winner on Tuesday.

(3.50) REASSURE (11/2, William Hill) is 2-2 on the all-weather, scoring wins at both Chelmsford and Newcastle, and he bounced back at the latter venue earlier in November to beat Dazzling Des by two lengths having possibly found soft ground against him the time before when disappointing at York.

William Haggas’ Oasis Dream filly won a shade readily in that latest success, and the handicapper has taken no chances in hitting her with an 8lbs rise in the weights which demands more from her.

However, she could be worth chancing to find further improvement to defy her new mark given her unbeaten record away from turf, and she is proven on tapeta so could well post a big effort here as she bids to follow up that last success.

(4.50) SCHUMLI (5/1, William Hill) found some improvement fitted with a tongue-tie to step up on previous efforts and get off the mark over course and distance earlier in the month, and it may be worth siding with David O’Meara’s charge to follow up assuming the headgear has the same positive effect.

The Swiss Spirit filly had shown only moderate form previously, although she has performed better on all-weather surfaces than turf, and she latterly opened her win account with a defeat of You Don’t Own Me where she scored by a half-length.

That runner-up has won since, and she turns out here only 3lbs higher in the handicap so could well have another big say with a repeat of that last outing.

4.20 – Waliyak
4.50 – Schumli
5.20 – Loving Glance
5.50 – Rocket Action
6.20 – Htilominlo
