Tuesday racing tips – Best bets at Sedgefield, Beverley, Wetherby and Ayr
Tuesday horse racing best bets 11 May
Another busy day of horse racing action is in store for punters on Tuesday with further meetings both on the flat and over the jumps. We’ve looked over the day’s cards to pick out our best Tuesday racing tips.
Tuesday’s fixture list of horse racing action takes in four meetings on the flat and over the sticks and the afternoon racing comes from the cards at Sedgefield over jumps and Beverley on the flat; unfortunately the planned Chepstow fixture has been abandoned due to patches of false ground at the Welsh venue.
Meanwhile the evening action comes from the cards at Ayr and Wetherby with both racing on the level. We’ve looked over all four of the day’s racecards to pick out our best Tuesday racing tips.
TUESDAY RACING TIPS 11 MAY – BEST BETS AT SEDGEFIELD, BEVERLEY, WETHERBY & AYR
2:07 Sedgefield – Cavellos Italian/Steakhouse Gin & Cocktail Bar Handicap Hurdle (Div I) Cl5 (4yo+ 0-100) 2m1f
ZAMARKHAN has shown improved form in the wake of a wind operation, winning over this course and distance back in September and looking set to get back to winning ways at Musselburgh in November when falling two out where he was travelling best.
The Great Journey gelding has made the frame three times since in jumpers’ bumper contests and competing here from the same mark as Musselburgh he could get back to winning ways returning from a break and back at this venue.
He could still be well handicapped back over hurdles and he can make his presence felt in a race where most of his rivals have a question to answer.
3:45 Beverley – Welcoming Back Spectators On 26 May Handicap Cl5 (3yo 0-75) 1m2f
VILLEURBANNE has bettered his finishing position in each of his three starts to date and James Tate’s charge can get off the mark now.
The Iffraaj colt was last seen finishing runner-up behind Headingley at Redcar last month, beaten just a half-length and this step up in trip could unlock another level of improvement as he steps into the handicap ranks from a potentially lenient 74 rating.
The form of his last start has been done little harm with the winner and fourth both running well since in stronger company and if this longer trip delivers a jolt of progress then he looks the one to beat.
4:07 Sedgefield – Equine Answers Premium Supplements Handicap Chase Cl4 (5yo+ 0-115) 2m3½f
NIGHTFLY ended a losing streak stretching back to November 2018 when scoring at Stratford back in March and it might be worth chancing Charlie Longsdon’s charge to go in again here.
While the veteran Midnight Legend mare isn’t the force of old she had been running quite well in defeat, twice making the frame following wind surgery before posting that success latest where she ran out a four lengths’ winner over Jarlath.
The fourth horse home in that race has won since and while a 6lbs rise asks more of her she remains extremely well-treated on her old form. Assuming the ground doesn’t become testing given the forecast rain then she can mount another bold bid and no surprise to see her in the mix again.
4:15 Beverley – Thank You Covid Vaccination Centre Volunteers Handicap Cl6 (3yo 0-65) 1m4f
Lightly-raced ALNAJEEB stepped up on past efforts following a break to finish third at Pontefract last month on his first try at this distance and the Sea The Stars gelding could be worth another chance.
Mark Johnston’s charge was beaten the thick end of 20 lengths behind Trawlerman, slowly away and only finding one pace; that form has been boosted with the runner-up and fourth winning since while the race-winner tried Group Three company next time where he wasn’t disgraced.
He now tries handicapping where an opening mark of 67 might not overestimate his potential for improvement and he can make his presence felt in this contest.
7:05 Ayr – Visit racingtv.com Handicap Cl6 (4yo+ 0-65) 7f
TOMMY G could get back on the winning trail for the first time since scoring at Musselburgh last September.
Jim Goldie’s Makfi gelding has been a bit hit or miss since that victory, but he did run one of his better races when last seen running over this course and distance last month where he was beaten just over one length by Midnite Bride.
He’s a three-time course and distance winner and he’s very well treated at the weights off this 62 rating while jockey Harry Reed takes off another valuable 5lbs so there would be little shock in seeing him deliver a big run here off an effective rating of just 57 given he’s won from as high as 81 in the past.
7:55 Wetherby – racingtv.com Handicap Cl5 (4yo+ 0-75) 5½f
ARAIFJAN scored for the third time in his career when posting arguably his best run to date when successful at Chelmsford last month and the Kyllachy gelding can follow up here if in similar mood.
Robert Cowell’s charge scored by a half-length from Show Me A Sunset, making all and finding plenty under jockey Ray Dawson’s urgings to hold off a host of challengers to land the win.
The handicapper has only raised him 2lbs for that victory, but Ray Dawson’s 3lbs claim negates that raise and he can compete here from effectively 1lb lower than when winning at Wolverhampton in November when Hollie Doyle was on board.
All his wins have come on the all-weather, but he does handle turf and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him post a solid effort here.
8:35 Ayr – Racecourse Live Streams On RacingTV Extra Handicap Cl6 (4yo+ 0-60) 1m2f
PUCKLE won twice over the summer last term, scoring back-to-back wins at Beverley and Mark Johnston’s charge can get back to winning ways here.
The Poet’s Voice filly has made the frame on both starts this term in runs at Beverley and Hamilton latterly where he found only El Picador too strong by a neck where he possibly just failed to get home over the stiffer track upped in trip.
He’s back at ten furlongs here which might suit him better and he can run from the same 60 rating so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him turn in another bold performance in a race that might not take a great deal of winning given most of his rivals are out of form.
