TUESDAY TIPS & BEST BETS – SELECTIONS FOR THE DAY’S UK RACING ACTION
1:30 Huntingdon – Michaelmas Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-140) 2m
CABOT CLIFFS might have needed his recent return to action at Chepstow one month ago and with that under his belt Dan Skelton’s charge can progress to get back to winning ways here.
The Gleneagles gelding won three times over hurdles from seven starts last term and those outings included a Cheltenham Festival appearance where he finished in midfield behind Jeff Kidder in the Fred Winter.
The Skelton team got off a slow start at the beginning of the campaign but appear in better form now and the selection ran a good third when posting his reappearance effort following six months off and he ought to come on for that effort where he can compete here from the same mark so there’d be no real surprise in seeing him in the mix here.
1:37 Lingfield – Sharon Knapp Memorial Cup Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (4yo+ 0-135) 2m7f
BLACKJACK KENTUCKY should be sharper for his recent reappearance and Paul Nicholls’ charge can go one better than his Newton Abbot runner-up effort last month behind a well-handicapped rival.
The Oscar gelding had won his previous outing back in February when denying Spiritofthegames at Chepstow and he’s still quite low-mileage for an eight-year old so could yet have some improvement to come.
He drops slightly in trip here which ought to help given he was possibly just stretched by the longer trip last time and competing off the same mark he ought to give a good account.
2:52 Hereford – Sky Sports Racing Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl3 (4yo+) 3m1f
All three in this race have strong claims and there’s not much to separate them but it might be worth chancing SWITCH HITTER to come out on top and the scorpion gelding can get back on the winning trail making his chase debut.
Paul Nicholls’ charge won twice from five starts over hurdles last term , scoring both at Kempton under this rider and he was an early casualty when last seen back there in April where he suffered a heavy fall in the race won by Oscar Rose.
He has to concede both race-fitness and chasing experience here but his yard has been in decent form of late and he’s a former winner between the flags so may well thrive in this environment now tacking the larger obstacles and every chance he can go well.
3:00 Huntingdon – Try Racing TV For Free Now Handicap Hurdle (Div II) Cl5 (3yo+ 0-100) 2m4½f
DYNALI was a fair winner on the flat before switching to the hurdling ranks and the Dansiliu gelding has been shaping better than his bare form figures suggest, most recently finishing runner-up behind Imphal at Ludlow last month where he was only beaten one length.
Ian Williams’ charge has seen that winner go in again to boost the form and given he was only run down late by the eventual winner this return to a shorter trip could suit him better and he ought to make his presence felt again off the same handicap rating and with cheekpieces reapplied.
4:20 Newcastle – Watch Racing Free Online At Coral Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (GBB Race) (Div I) Cl5 (2yo) 6f
HOOKED ON YOU stepped up for his debut experience to post a solid third at Haydock last month and the Starspangledbanner filly might be worth chancing here to get off the mark at the third attempt.
Karl Burke’s charge boasts tapeta experience from her debut where she pulled too hard and raced green when finishing sixth, but she showed the benefit of that experience on her next start and there is certainly potential for better yet to come.
She was beaten just over two lengths in that last run and the form looks very fair so with further improvement expected she ought to make her presence felt here.
7:00 Newcastle – MansionBet Beaten By A Head Handicap Cl5 (3yo+ 0-70) 7f
TAMASKA has shown some progressive form of late and David O’Meara’s charge could be worth chancing to get back to winning ways here.
The Starspangledbanner gelding has been kept busy this year but he’s proven a consistent sort with four wins on turf and he’s held his form well throughout the campaign; he’s finished runner-up the last twice over this course and distance and wasn’t beaten far when last seen behind Key Look where he finished clear of the third horse.
A visor is tried now and the change of headgear might work enough to see him find some small measure of improvement to get off the mark on the all-weather.
