Coko Beach made decent progress during his juvenile campaign, the highlight of which came at Cheltenham, where Gordon Elliott’s charge finished second to Band Of Outlaws in the Fred Winter. I, however, am always keen to take on juveniles during their second season over hurdles, Coko Beach looked a little green throughout that winless first campaign and I’ve not sure the ground will be soft enough for him at Punchestown.Bothar Dubh has been in decent form this season and could be a player, but over this 18 furlong trip, the one who really appeals is PLAY THE GAME (NAP).After reaching a peak rating of 100 on the flat, Play The Game has won three of his 13 starts over hurdles. The most recent of thos victories came at Listowel back in June, where John McConnell’s six-year-old powered home to carry odds of 16/1 into the winners’ enclosure.
Play The Game has struggles in two very competitive two mile handicaps since then, but managed to place on his most recent start on the level, again at Listowel. Rising start of the Irish weighing room, Donal McInerney takes the race and Play The Game should relish the decent ground at Punchestown today.
