WEDNESDAY CORK RACING TIPS – IRISH RACING BEST BETS
1:30 Cork – Mallow Maiden (3yo+) 6f
STALINGRAD offered something to work on when finding only one too good on his debut at Limerick back in June and if his break since hasn’t taken an edge off him then the War Front colt could be worth chancing to go one better.
Beaten just over two lengths behind Soaring Monarch the form looks fair and given he was sent off favourite for the contest suggests he’s fairly well thought of and was expected to deliver a solid first run. He could build on that experience and with his yard in good fettle looks capable of another bold bid.
Far less exposed than most of these rivals Fozzy Stack’s charge ought to be in the mix at the business end and no surprise to see him come out on top.
2:05 Cork – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap (3yo+) 6f
A STEP TOO FAR is thriving at present, racking up a four-timer since returning from lockdown, latterly scoring at Navan with a defeat of Miacomet under this rider.
Kieran Cotter’s charge had previously won at Naas and posted successive victories in the space of 24 hours at Bellewstown in testing ground prior to that fourth win and the Footstepsinthesand filly can continue her winning spree if handling this quicker ground back up in trip.
She’s proven a tough nut to crack from the front over the minimum trip in recent times and there’s a suspicion she’ll need to improve in order to defy this new mark over an extra furlong; however she ought to continue to give a good account if recent exertions haven’t blunted her edge and if coping with the quicker conditions then she can go well again in pursuit of another win.
3:15 Cork – Watergrasshill Median Auction Maiden (Plus 10 Race) (2yo) 1m
FLYING VISIT has shown a decent level of form already in his four starts and the Pride Of Dubai colt can get off the mark here.
Jim Bolger’s charge has finished in the frame in each of his last three outings, latterly crossing the line to land a third successive bronze medal at Galway eight days ago where he was only beaten one length behind Kyprios.
His form to date sets the standard but it is worth noting all three of his third-place finishes have come on testing ground so it remains to see if he can cope with much quicker conditions here; but if he does then he ought to be in the mix again and first-time cheekpieces might help him find a jolt of improvement so no surprise to see him going close.
4:25 Cork – Racing Again September 29th Handicap (Div I) (3yo+ 45-65) 1m4f
DRUMMER is capable of a big run in a relatively modest contest and the Smart Strike gelding can go close.
Runner-up at Killarney in July behind Harvey Specter he hasn’t disgraced himself in either of his subsequent starts and latterly finished a fair fourth to We’ll Go Again at Punchestown earlier this month where he was beaten around four lengths.
That form has been done little harm with both the runner-up and third filling the frame in their respective subsequent outings and the handicapper eases Denis Hogan’s charge a further 2lbs in the weights with this return to a longer trip no problem having made the frame at this distance on the all-weather.
With his yard in decent fettle at present he is expected to run a big race where he can take advantage of his sliding handicap mark to make his presence felt and he ought to go close in this moderate affair with his high draw a plus to his claims of success.
