2.45 Leicester – BARACALU (5/2, Paddy Power)
3.15 Leicester – MIAH GRACE (9/4, William Hill)
5.15 Kempton – RUSPER’S LAD (5/2, Bet365)
5.45 Kempton – MERCHANT OF VENICE (10/3, Bet365)
6.15 Kempton – DUBAI ELEGANCE (7/2, William Hill)

(2.45 Leicester)

BARACALU (5/2, Paddy Power) has been around a few doors with only limited success, but having pitched up at Tristan Davidson for his last couple of runs the Califet gelding has shown an improved level of form.

The nine-year old ended his time with Sandy Thompson by finishing third behind the useful Lord Yeats at Sedgefield. He was subsequently absent for almost eleven months until returning to action at Carlisle back in November, and he built on that performance latest when fitted with cheekpieces for the first time to beat Percy by almost two lengths.

That was only a seller, but he won comfortably and this latest assignment looks no harder so he might be able to follow up here assuming the headgear has the same positive effect.

(3.15 Leicester)

MIAH GRACE (9/4, William Hill) showed some ability in a pair of bumpers last year, but Jedd O’Keeffe’s charge has taken her form up a notch since being switched to hurdles where the Malinas mare is 2-3 from her starts this term.

A ready winner of her hurdles debut at Hexham in October, she was subsequently far from disgraced in a much better race when denied only by Big Bad Bear at Wetherby. However, she wasted no time in getting back on the scoresheet at Hexham latest where the heavy ground proved no issue.

She had just over one length to spare over Stainsby Girl on that occasion, finding plenty to hold off the runner-up with the pair clear; that form has stood up fairly well and she now tries handicapping where a mark of 125 may not overfaze her given she likely has the potential for further improvement.

1.45 – Imperial Alcazar
2.15 – Pistol Whipped
2.45 – Baracalu
3.15 – Miah Grace
3.45 – Celtic Rising
4.15- Drewmain Legend

(5.15 Kempton)

Although a couple of interesting newcomers make their respective debuts in this contest, it might be worth chancing on RUSPER’S LAD (5/2, Bet365) to put his experience to good use, and the Brazen Beau colt can get off the mark at the second attempt.

Tom Clover’s charge was beaten little over one length in that first start, doing some good late work having looked green early. That form has since been franked with the runner-up in the race going on to win both starts since, while the fifth has also notched up a win.

He makes his reappearance from more than eight months off the track, but he’s sure to have learnt from that first outing and this longer trip could unlock further improvement so he may well be capable of opening his account now.

(5.45 Kempton)

MERCHANT OF VENICE (10/3, Bet365) wasn’t beaten far into fourth behind the reopposing Rangali Island at Chelmsford earlier in the month, but the Bated Breath gelding could be worth chancing to turn the tables on that rival this time around.

James Fanshawe’s charge wasn’t seen to best effect in that last run, caught further back than ideal but finishing off the race well to only be denied by a head in a blanket finish.

While a 1lb pull strictly isn’t enough at the weights, his good record at this venue – two wins and two placed runs from five – ought to ensure he remains competitive under the red-hot Ben Curtis and his consistency can be rewarded here with his last-time conqueror not certain to be in the same form.

Our Wednesday horse racing tips feature a James Fanshawe-trained runner.

(6.15 Kempton)

DUBAI ELEGANCE (7/2, William Hill) arrives here on a hat-trick of wins having already struck back-to-back successes at Wolverhampton in recent weeks which includes over this distance, and Derek Shaw’s charge can land the three-timer.

The Sepoy mare hasn’t won either by far, but she won a shade cosily on her penultimate start having met with trouble in running before scoring over an extra furlong latest where she picked up well off the slow pace.

Winners have since come out of both of those contests and she has only been raised 2lbs ahead of this latest run; she could still be hiding something from the handicapper judging on recent starts and current form.

The drop back to six furlongs will be of no concern and there’s likely to be a decent pace to this contest so she could well strike again.
