Wednesday’s 8,299/1 Lucky 15 – Four Fancies At Doncaster On 7th September
It’s the opening day of the Doncaster St Leger Festival, and all four of our lucky 15 picks for Wednesday 7th September come from the Doncaster card. They include our pick for the Leger Legends race, and the Group 3 Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes.
Our expert tipster has produced their best bets across the cards, which make up our advised Wednesday Lucky 15.
*Odds correct at time of posting – 3:25pm Tuesday 6th September*
Sound Of Iona (1.50 Doncaster) – 11/2
This one is all about striking while the iron’s hot! We’ve only just got into September but SOUND OF IONA has already won a class 4 race and placed in two higher grade races, and providing she’s still firing on all cylinders she looks the one they have to beat.
Connections like to make sure to get her out when in form, so it’s no surprise to see her have her fourth run in a week. She was just touched off in a class 3 last Thursday, she was out again the following day when she ran out a comfortable winner at Ascot. Just 24 hours later she was racing for the third time in as many days, and only just missed out in a Class 2 affair, losing out by a neck to Lethal Nymph and Mums Tipple.
She’s had a few days to rest and if she’s in the same form, she will be tough to beat. Stone Of Destiny may be the biggest danger on a career low rating, but with the form she’s in, Sound Of Iona gets our vote.

Dogged (3.00 Doncaster) – 14/1
You’ve got to love the Leger Legends race! It’s always a pleasure to see retired jockeys back in the saddle, and with three of the last four winners having won at double-figure odds, we’re backing DOGGED to be another big-priced winner.
Rebecca Menzies’ gelding has been knocking on the door all year, with his turf record over this trip reading 27253, and when you look into those races you can see some interesting pieces of form.
He finished runner-up at Pontefract at the start of last month, behind Captain Corelli, but still finished comfortably clear of Arranmore, who lines up in this. He has since reversed form with Captain Corelli in his most recent race, when finishing third behind Temper Trap (another who lines up here). He was giving Temper Trap 5lb in that race, and meets here off equal weights, so should be able to reverse that form too.
These races are usually wide open, and at the prices we fancy Dogged to run a big race under Amy Ryan. Of the rest, Arranmore is likely to go well, as is Kieren Fallon’s ride – Shine On Brendan.

Bounce The Blues (3.35 Doncaster) – 7/1
Another one with an excellent chance, William Buick can steer BOUNCE THE BLUES to victory in the feature. Trainer Andrew Balding has won the race twice in the last four years, and he has an excellent chance of another winner here.
She finished 7th in the Oak Tree Stakes at her last attempt at 7f, but finished ahead of a couple of these rivals still, including Heredia. She was giving that rival 7lb that day, and only has to give her 4lb here.
This will be the first time William Buick has been on board her, and with him in such impressive form of late, he could be exactly what’s needed to get her back in the winners enclosure.

Just Fine (5.20 Doncaster) – 5/1
This is a cracking race to end the opening day of the St Leger Festival, and we’re backing JUST FINE. The Queen’s runner has struggled of late in bigger fields, but back down to a field of 12 runners he can be seen to best effect.
He was beaten around six lengths by Forest Falcon in the Chesterfield Cup, but did finish ahead of Legend Of Dubai still. Forest Falcon is now 7lb heavier following that win, so we’re hopeful our pick can reverse that form now much better off at the weights.
Legend Of Dubai is probably the biggest danger, with jockey Andrea Atzeni winning four of the last six renewals of the race. But Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore teamed up to win it in 2019 with Davydenko and they can land the spoils again here with Just Fine.
