Friday – Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips Round-up

There are two Group 1 races for three-year-olds on day 4 of Royal Ascot with the top fillies in the Coronation Stakes and six-furlong sprinters in the Commonwealth Cup. The Coronation Stakes is the target for 1000 Guineas winners across Europe and always attracts a top-quality international field. The last British-trained winner was Rizeena in 2014 with fillies from Ireland and France sharing the last six renewals.

The Classic generation is also in focus in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes, a race that regularly features horses that ran in the Epsom Derby. The card opens with some smart two-year-old fillies in the Albany Stakes and our Royal Ascot day 4 tips will try to unravel some very competitive handicaps in the last three races to help you make the most of your Royal Ascot bets. The Sandringham Stakes and the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes are followed by the concluding Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap.

Albany Stakes Tips

The Albany Stakes is a Group 3 race for two-year-old fillies over six furlongs. The race tends to produce precocious sprint types but last year’s third Mother Earth went on to win the 1000 Guineas as a three-year-old.

King Edward VII Stakes Tips

The King Edward VII Stakes is for three-year-old colts and geldings over a mile and a half and is sometimes referred to as the Ascot Derby. Many horses beaten in the Epsom Classic have run here to try to redeem their reputation including recent winners Japan (2019) and Pyledriver (2020).

Commonwealth Cup Tips

The Group 1 Commonwealth Cup was introduced in 2015 and is for three-year-olds over six furlongs. The inaugural winner was Muhaarar who went on to become Champion Sprinter while the 2020 winner Golden Horde was later placed in both the July Cup and the Haydock Sprint Cup.

Coronation Stakes Tips

The Coronation Stakes is a Group 1 race for three-year-old fillies over a mile and regularly attracts 1000 Guineas winners from Britain, Ireland and France. Notable past winners include Attraction (2004), Ghanaati (2009), Alpha Centauri (2018) and Winter (2017).

Sandringham Stakes Tips

The Sandringham Stakes is a handicap restricted to three-year-old fillies over a mile and was formerly run as the Fern Hill Rated Stakes. Charlie Fellowes and Hayley Turner have teamed up to win the last two renewals with Thanks Be (2019) and Onassis (2020).

Duke of Edinburgh Stakes Tips

The Duke of Edinburgh is a mile and a half handicap for three-year-olds and upwards. Favourite backers were celebrating with Dash Of Spice (2018) and Baghdad (2019) but were left reeling by 33-1 outsider Scarlet Dragon in 2020.

Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap Tips

The Palace Of Holyroodhouse was introduced to the card 12 months ago and is a handicap for three-year-olds over five furlongs. Art Power was a brilliant winner and went on to finish fourth in Group 1 races here and at Haydock Park.
