Day 5 of Royal Ascot 2020 offers two superb Group 1 races to delve into – the first of them being the St James’s Palace Stakes. This particular race is usually guaranteed to provide a thrilling finish with some of  Europe’s finest milers on display. So, as the final day of the action unfolds, dive below into our top Ascot tips and predictions on which horse we think will steal the headlines…

St James’ Palace Stakes 2020 Favourites

Bookmakers are finding it hard to split PINATUBO and WICHITA at the head of the market. Pinatubo was officially rated the best juvenile in 25 years when sweeping all before him and remaining unbeaten but his reputation took a huge dent when he could finish only third when an odds-on favourite for the first Classic of the season. the 2000 Guineas.

WICHITA finished one place ahead of Pinatubo in the Guineas and there was plenty of shrewd money around from those in the know suggesting a big run was expected and he put in a huge effort to finish second. Clearly a top-class prospect, he may usurp Pinatubo at the head of the market for the St James’s Palace Stakes. The Irish challenger is clearly Ballydole’s best prospect for the race and there should be plenty of Ascot free bets piling on the Aidan O’Brien-trained runner.

The Best of The Rest

Leading the charge against WICHITA and PINATUBO is PALACE PIER. Unbeaten in his last three starts, he was hugely impressive in his return in a mile handicap at Newcastle and although this would be a huge step up in class he looks the type who will continue to improve.

Threat could be huge threat, did you see what we did there?, if he has improved from two to three. Trainer Richard Hannon made the decision to bypass the Guineas to keep his horse fresh for this assignment and he could go well.

Another outsider to consider among your Royal Ascot tips is POSITIVE. His two-year-old form is closely linked to the Guineas protagonists and he could well be the forgotten horse of the race.

So, while the betting suggests that this is a two-horse race between WICHITA and PINATUBO, there could well be a dark horse to focus on, which makes this a perfect race to watch on our Ascot live streaming services.
