The Commonwealth Cup
Operating as one of the newest permanent events in Royal Ascot’s racing schedules, the Group one Commonwealth Cup is the highlight of the day four action. With the truncated racing programme as a reult of the coronavirus, most horses will be making their seasonal debuts Especially so considering that many horses will be making seasonal debuts here, with plenty of talented, young three-year-olds looking to make their names and cement their reputations. Given that there are a number of new faces taking on the challenge of the six furlongs of the track, it’s easy to fall into the trap of not knowing who to wager on. Fortunately, we’ve taken a look at all the front-runners and favorites for you.
Commonwealth Cup Favourites
Leading the betting charge is the speedy PIERRE LAPIN. Under the tutelage of skilled trainer Roger Varian, the young horse has gone from strength to strength and is unbeaten in his first two starts, impressing at Haydock and Newbury and proving far too hot to handle for his fellow opponents. Given the expected improvement over the winter, he is expected to go extremely well in in this June’s Commonwealth Cup and he could be a banker for many people and their Ascot betting tips
Another horse who could be likely to feature at the finish is GOLDEN HORDE. He’s put in some eyecatching performances last season and has probably the best form in the book of any contender, having landed the Group two Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. He already sets a high starndard for Pierre Lapin to aim at and we would not put any one of you off including the Clive Cox-trained horse among the plans you have for your Ascot free bets.
The Best of The Rest
So, who will potentially join the leading duo on the podium? Well, there are huge doubts over the participation of foreign-based raiders at this year’s Royal Ascot but WOODED could be a serious contender if he makes the journey over from France. An impressive winner on his seasonal return, he has plenty of pace to burn and would bring some much needed Gallic flair to Royal Ascot 2020.
Irish challenger ARIZONA could enhance trainer Aidan O’Brien’s Royal Ascot record. Already a winnet at the prestigious meeting after winning last year’s Coventry Stakes, he is bidding to restore his reputation after disappointing in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. A return to sprint trips could see him bouncing bacj to form and only a fool would rule him out of consideration if he attempts to add the Commonwealth Cup to his CV.
Others to note are MALOTRU, who could well be partnered by Italian Frankie Dettori. MALOTRu was extremely unlucky on his return to action, getting no luck in running when runner-up at Group 3 level and he appears to have more than enough ability to play a part in this. His conqueror DUBAI STATION claimed victory in that Group three Pavillion Stakes but could find it tricky to confirm the form. However, all eyes, including those watching the Ascot live streams, and Royal Ascot 2020 tipsters will be on PIERRE LAPIN.
Will he live up to the hype?
