Many of the three-year-olds entered here have endured long, hard seasons running on the ultra-competitive handicap sprint circuit, so you can see why the bookmakers list the two newcomers so prominently in the betting. Call Me Ginger won nicely enough at Redcar last time out, but the most dangerous handicap debutante certainly has to be Mubakker, who sauntered to an effortless triumph on the all-weather last time out.
While he should be a big player, this is a completely different challenge to that he triumphed in at Kempton and Mubakker’s breeding suggests he might not take too kindly to the soft turf at Ascot. One who will certainly relish the underfoot conditions is ROULSTON SCAR (NAP), who has been progressing very nicely all season and was given a mid-summer break to freshen up for a profitable autumn campaign.
Kevin Ryan’s youngster started this season winning a handicap off a mark of 77 up at Wetherby. Two further victories and two decent thirds have followed and Roulston Scar comes into this on the back of a very smart victory at York, where Megan Nicholls gave her mount an excellent front-running ride.
Roulston Scar is two-from-two over six furlongs this term – both defeats coming over five on quick ground – and showed he handled juicy ground by beating a handy sprinter in Triple Distilled on soft at Pontefract back in June. There seems to be a good amount of pace drawn around Nicholls’ mount up in stall ten and Roulston Scar looks capable of progressing even further beyond this career-high mark of 98.
